E3: The Far Cry 2 demo (2/3)

E3: The Far Cry 2 demo (2/3)

Here comes the second out of the three parts of our Far Cry 2 developer walkthrough, produced during E3 on an Xbox 360 version. The video lasts more than six minutes and captures the methodical destruction of two villages that weren't prepared for so much anger, as well as some wanderings in the superb natural environments of the game.

FAR better then it used to be. And the framerate is only an issue when your driving or things are exploding. Its definitly not the best, but its playable, and i expect they will work on it.
I hope you don't have to drive all jerky, there is an analog stick for a reason! Hopefully it was just whoever was playing and not the game though =p

looks excellent, lets hope its excellent to play.

Hmm, i noticed a rubber tree from one of the explosions. So trees are the only thing you CAN'T blow up?
Reminds me of driving over small trees in Halo 3 v.v

You sure it's not your PC causing the vid to lag? The game looks perfectly smooth to me. The game looks as smooth as the Gears and Killzone vids.

game looks stunning. They must be pretty confident with the 360 version to have it on show playable.

Looks very good, but the gameplay? Doesn't look that well oiled as BF:BC (just to put in perspective)

I kept on thinking "this can't be playing on the 360!" all the way during this video. Nice work, Ubi Montreal, very impressive. I want my hands on a demo! XD

with a bit of optimisation to get the framerate stable this could be one helluva game. i love the fact i can take on any situation however i want. and whoever was playing did things exactly as i would have, stay at a distance and use a sniper. as long as the objectives are varied enough, it should be worth a purchase.

I really wish you guys would've taken some footage of the PS3 version for comparison.

This is all that I could find of the PS3 version from E3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQfC-pH8iNA

Hm, graphics are amazing, but I'm not sure about the sound effects en more importantly the shooting(gameplay) yet..
Commented on 2008-07-22 12:00:46
Ok, the only thing bothering me is the sprinting. The sound doesn't fit.

wow 360 version is awesome, best graphics on console

Yes, the framerate is the weakest thing in FarCry2. But i can close my eyes on this if it realy so beautiful

Speaking of sprint, I heard you have to click and HOLD down the left stick button in order to run in this game, just like Battlefield: Bad Company. Which is a terrible control scheme that wears down your controller.

fuck yeah it does. cod4 completely destroyed my left thumb stick, now im constantly dragging left no matter what i do. meaning i have to compensate for every action, especially in racers.

Halo has done the same to mine (to be able to crouch) and since I use it a lot my left thumbstick is almost unuseable.

Get in on PC, then you only have to press shift ;o)
The graphics are beautifull, but I don't see many destruction possibilities (maybe with grenades it does work) when shooting wooden fences. That's a shame. Other than that, it's what I hoped for so far.

You don't have to hold down the sprint button in COD4. Tap once, and you'll sprint until your soldier runs out of stamina.

Im completely blown away.. Everything is so awesome. From the metal sounds when the jeep is bouncing to the transparency-AA on the grass and trees..
This is what i wanted Crysis to be. Yeah i know, Crysis wasnt meant to be exactly like Farcry in that sense, but wow just look at this.
Just another nail in the coffin of the idea that keeping the previous developers of a franchize is important.
Whatever devs are working on this, they are outdoing Crytek at every turn.
In my eyes as a gamer that is, where the moddability of the engine, how well it sells to other game companies etc means nothing :)

nostradamus @Moonwalker: well, i'll on a leg and say its a "lie". It seems on par with DA:I, and if they think thats fine for a reveal trailer, then it doesn't bode well for the final product. (4 Hours ago)
