One of the big announcements yesterday at Sony's press conference was Final Fantasy XIV, exclusive on PS3 (and PC). While this is huge news, keep in mind that it is a MMORPG and not your "average" Final Fantasy game. Still, quite the announcement. Trailer inside.

Good news for the MMO PS fans I guess but I'll have to pass on this one just like I did with FFXI.

Maybe that's a bad thing as well though and just proves how addictive they can be lol.
but for the people who did enjoy FFXI guess this is good new for you guys/gals.
Well it was time for a new FF Online.
But I am not really interested in MMO's. FF13 plz :P

also note there is a short clip of irealtime in there
having FFXI already on X360, for me makes no sense having somekind of restriction to put the game on the plataform, but what do we know. Show us the improvements over XI.
as for it being an MMO...well, if they improve on FFXI. XI had some good stuff but personally i found that overall it really didn't stack up to WoW (who is obviously the 800 pound gorilla everyone's trying to topple).
at the very least even NCsoft has realized they need to start upping the pacing of their games if they want to appeal to more than the narrowest subset of mmorpg-ers (note Aion), and i always found FFXI had a pacing that made even kmmos feel like hares.

Then I saw the full name (something the Sony reps conveniently did not say . . . several times) was Final Fantasy 14 Online, and I actually felt pissed off. I try getting into MMOs, but so many of them are nothing more than grindfests. I was okay with that style of RPG 15 years ago . . . even 10 years ago. But I just cannot handle endless grinding in video games any more. I'd much rather be out somewhere living real life, than grinding in a game.

Old Republic is the only MMO that may change my mind, and I'm still hoping they do something different with the payment model.
For those who worry about the fee, what is $10-$15 per month? Really, just about anyone can afford that. You easily spend that much on other junk each month. Why not spend it on a quality gaming experience?
