Press release

GUILDFORD, UK. – 9th June, 2010 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that its top-selling* franchise from EA SPORTSTM will redefine player authenticity when FIFA 11 launches this Fall on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system. FIFA 11 reinvents player authenticity – on and off the ball – for every player and at every position on the pitch with Personality+, an all-new feature that sees individual abilities reflected in game, enabling clear differentiation for every player.

“Personality+ is the evolution of individual distinctiveness that sees a footballer’s abilities on the pitch mirrored authentically in our game, creating individual personalities in FIFA 11,” said Executive Producer Kaz Makita. “We have reached a level of sophistication within our game engine where footballers in our game will behave and perform as true individuals.”

Personality+ distinguishes individual footballers from one another by utilizing a database that evaluates and grades each player’s skill-set over 36 attributes and 57 traits. The EA SPORTS FIFA franchise utilizes a network of 1700 scouts, editors and reviewers positioned around the world to evaluate each player, creating one of the world’s most comprehensive databases to drive its market-leading football engine. Personality+ plus will be integrated everywhere in-game. Elite players are now empowered to showcase their world class skills. Real Madrid’s Kaka will deliver crisp, creative passes, Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta will utilize tighter turns and close control to dribble through defenses, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney will hold off defenders and strike shots from distance with pace, and top-flight defenders like Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus will anticipate, predict and react to offensive players to win back possession. New body types and player models will further distinguish each player on the pitch. In addition, goalkeepers have also been injected with Personality+. The real-life personality of the keeper, whether acrobatic or traditional, will dictate his style in game. Dive attributes will determine the keepers with the ability to reach for further shots while reflex attributes determine reaction times, so a keeper like Petr Cech of Chelsea FC will be able to showcase world-class skills.

FIFA 11 introduces new Pro Passing where pass accuracy is determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch, yielding a deeply rewarding passing system. Poor decisions or over/under striking the ball will mean error-prone outcomes. New types of passes such as swerve passes will enable players to make a safer and more effective play.

Building on FIFA 10 gameplay, which won 50 sports game of the year awards, FIFA 11 continues to listen to its growing legion of FIFA fans around the world to refine gameplay in ways that matter most to fans. Visit http://www.facebook.com/easportsfifa to join the FIFA group to express feedback directly to game developers and receive exclusive content. New game modes and innovations will be revealed in the coming months along with features on other platforms.

WOW, actually likenesses in a fifa game !!??!!
Finally the players look like they should have several games ago, granted each iteration they have got closer, but its just taken way too long.

Looks less cartoony, plasticy.. but still some character models are hit or miss.
Ballack, Lampard, Arshavin (at least his back) : Hit
Samir Nasri: Ghoulish miss

I dunno, Nasri looks a bit ghoulish IRL, so i think theyve got it spot on.

A bit strange that they don't use next season's kits when announcing next season's game.

The graphics are fine, it's the animations that need to be really good. Most people play with the tele view with the camera zoomed out so you really on ly get to see the high poly models during replays and in be a pro mode.

as long as the animations and individual character animations like Messi, Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, etc.. are spot on then it looks great in the expanded view.

I'll buy it regardless, I'm still hammering fifa 10 and WC so they must be doing someting right.

They did the same last year. It's nothing new.

Amen to that. By far my most played game this gen - I still play it every day - although that'll probably be topped by FIFA 11.

The player models look a heck of a lot more realistic, and the likeness is significantly better. Ivanovic looks great for example.

It's good to hear that they're fully focused on individuality this year, as it's just about the only weak point of the franchise at this point. If that gets fully addressed, we may just have the definitive football game.

Is there any word about the PC port? The xbox 360 & PS3 versions of fifa 10 were great, but the PC always gets a Ps2 port, which isn't even in the same league!

Maybe because they actually spend more time on getting the gameplay right.

New home kits every TWO years. So if a team switched kits last season, you won't see new ones till 2011-2012 season. And nobody really cares about away kits.

edit: Just checked and it seems there IS a new Manchester Utd kit, but I don't think it's been officially announced.

There's a new Chelsea kit, but you don't see that in the screens. It'll be in FIFA 11, though.

if only it would look like that in motion

Who says it won't? Just zoom in all the way and play like that if you want to...

I installed Fifa 10 on my computer and boy... it's different. The animations felt more... rigid somehow, but definitely looks sharper @ 1080p :D

FIFA 11 reinvents player authenticity that is the true about it . A bit strange that they don't use next season's kits when announcing next season's game.

  • KORNdog
KORNdog I mean, i get it, they're attempts at those sort of games (sunset overdrive, quantum break etc) havn't exactly captured the last of us level of quality, but it isn't a reason to stop trying. (8 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Moonwalker: sounds like spencer is bringing games as a service to the forfront. Less traditional single player experiences, and if thats the case i have no interest what they're peddling. (10 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @AndreasZ94: wouldn't bother me. My unbought list of games i want is about 10 games long already. That should serve me until 2018 easily. (34 minutes ago)
  • AndreasZ94
AndreasZ94 I hope we didn't get all the good stuff on the first half and the second half of the year is gonna be shit or something, lol. (1 Hour ago)
  • AndreasZ94
AndreasZ94 Wtf is going this year!? We got tons of amazing AAA games, most of them from Japanese devs and now we're getting tons of amazing indie games as well. (1 Hour ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts @Megido: The phrases people keep using about What Remains of Edith Finch are "unlike any other game of the genre" and "I loved this game while I didn't care for games like Gone Home and Ethan Carter". (1 Hour ago)
  • Megido
Megido And it's obviously down to taste. "Games" like Soma, for example, isn't for me. (3 Hours ago)
