FF XIII was my first FF game (picked it up recently) and I actually really enjoyed it despite it's flaws (the absurdly long and linear first portions). The battle system was great and the visuals were among the best this gen. Apparently the follow up does address the linearity and bring back towns and NPC's to the series so I am actually looking forward to it.
Recently watched the FF vs XIII trailer and it looks amazing, also looking forward to that.
I want this game to be everything it could be, but lets be honest i just cant see it happening, SE take way to long with there games, even then they fuck them up, this one there chucking out really fast, i can imagine it will show..
But then again hopefully they work better when been whipped and told they have not got 5 years.

I still play PS2 games, just finished Fatal frame 2 and Jak II.
ehrm, textures for the gloves and maybe the totally ugly environments? Seems like all the power is (again) used for the faces and hair. That's basically what the user above said about FF13/13-2 and its PS2 look. Compare FFXs high poly faces during in-engine cutscenes with the FF13-2 screen here, and you wont see that much of a difference. Sure, FF13/13-2 can now provide these faces during actual gameplay, but the rest looks pretty much like an HD PS2 game. FFX still has better combat effects as well, especially during special attacks, spells and ultimate attacks of Yunas summoned beasts (dont know the english term, lol).
Here is a screen of FFX-2. Yuna during an in-engine cutscene. For a PS2, her face is pretty much identical in terms of detail. I dont see a huge difference between Serahs face. The hair is less detailed, sure, but still looks pretty good (for a PS2).
Compare the background from the Serah screen with the Yuna screen > show me where the PS3 looks soooooooooooooo much better, plz.
I guess people dont know what a graphics engine has to deliver to say "it looks good". FF13 graphics are weak and outdated (even during launch). When they announced FF13 first, it looked much better. Too bad they downgraded the engine more and more, for no reason IMO.

Sorry but if oyu can't see the substantial increase in geometry and texture resolution between pink hair bitch up there and Yuna then you probably need a pair of glasses cause the difference is not insubstantial, it's pretty damn big. The geometry is no doubt increased manyfold, not to mention use of shaders, texture resolution and improved lighting. As for that other link, ever heard of the term Target Render? Cause that's most likely what the first "screenshot" is. An estimate of how the game might look when done, not an actual screenshot. I might be wrong on that, but it's my guess.
Also your Yuna shot, it's obviously from an emulator in much higher resolution than you'd ever get from your PS2. Here's a more realistic example to debunk your bullshittery;
