Gamersyde downtime

You may or may not have noticed that Gamersyde was down for a few hours this morning, after our hosting ovh changed the wrong hard drive on the server, having us reboot to the site as it was on December 15 2012. Joy. I've restored the nightly backup of the database, and the weekly backup of the galeries, and we are actively working on fixing the few still broken news. Sorry about that!

Oh dear, it wasn't me was it. I was streaming the AC4 trailer and then clicked to download the video direct after watching a lot of it, then the whole website got broked :(

Prepare the tar and feathers guys, we got our culprit!
It's a pure hardware problem, nothing anyone could have done about it.

No one noticed, and that tells you a lot. This site is becomming a Beast in every way possible.

I remember coming to this site by the time ALL Playstation videos were getting 1 star rating - even games like Uncharted and such - while the rest were getting 3, 4 or more stars regardless of its quality. Even by then you could see the site and its content had a huge potential. I remember I was like: "man, such shame that a quality place like this is so ridiculously one sided". Well, the truth is times have changed and the site got a whole lot better and fair, even in the community department.

Last night was the Tablets features, and you can almost sense this guys are trying their best with hard work to push this place to another level, which by now I think it really deserves.

Thank you for everything. Love your work

He format the drive or something too? Just have them swap the drive back.

That would have taken hours to get them to do that, and in the meantime we were still down. It was faster to just restore from the backup, considering how little content we would be losing.
We'll be migrating to a brand new server in a few days.

What's up?
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I mean they can keep upgrading it but why bother when they have more capable engines already. (3 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I just think it shows its age in a lot of ways in FC5 and they have better tech so they should use it. (3 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth if they still pay royalties to crytech when using it they probably should (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Although I think it's kinda time to retire Dunia. (4 Hours ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth @HR2: a lot of studios used modified UE3, games like Arkham Knight, XCom2, both being very problematic on pc. Interesting to see what those studios will do for their next games. (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @HR2: Ubisoft uses their own engines. They have like.. three solid in house game engines. (4 Hours ago)
  • HR2
HR2 @Melmoth: agreed. speaking of Ubisoft, I wonder which engine they're using for the next Splinter Cell. a heavily modified UE3 like Batman AK or UE4? (4 Hours ago)
