Gamersyde version 2 public beta!

We've been hard at work over the last few weeks on a new version of Gamersyde. The goal was to make a surprise launch for E3, and so I'm happy to report that we now have a public beta up and running. I know, this is a very web 2.0 way to do things, but in our case we still have some major issues to fix before the new site is ready for prime time (thanks for nothing IE7). So head on to the beta and enjoy the ride. Both versions will coexist nicely while sharing the same database until we feel confident the new site is up to our quality standards.

Yeah you can bookmark the new version, once it's been fully launch it will redirect to the main site.

I don't know man, maybe I just have to get used to it...but so far I'm not liking it. I think it's mainly the sterile look and "in your face" advertisement.

That's just my opinion though, so don't take it the wrong way. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I generally just don't really like 'change' either I suppose...

hmmmm, this is a tough one.... While I do think the site does indeed need a facelift, the new page is a little bit becoming too crowded! The best thing I like about Gamersyde is the simplicity of the page.

Here are my thoughts:

I dont think a latest comments section is really necessary to be honest (-)
I love the Twitter style update thing (+)
A video corner ? is that really necessary since all videos will appear as main articles anyway ? (-)
Cant wait to find out what we can do in the community section! (+)

This is my honest opinion, you guys are free to do what you wish with the site but I hope my feedback could be of help

where's the console/platform logos?
other than that it looks ok.. hopefully it wont turn into another shacknews / 1up or other convoluted (too many link to click) game sites.

It kind of just looks like Joystiq tho. I love how the current site is set up! I mean its fine but now the content I actually want to see is taking up much less of the screen, the entire right half is stuff I dont care to see. I understand tho, and will get used to it.

One remark though, I noticed a third ad-banner. I just hope it sticks to that. I'd be more for a subscription/pay thingy then banners all over the place. But that's just me.

Forums are big improvement, so much better to read now and what's up box is fun.

There is 3 ads for me. 2 in the side and one at the top of the site.

Nope. We can either have no image for a news, a small image, a full width but short image, or a big ass one. It just depends on what we feel is important or not. The big issue with the previous site is that a hige news like the FF13 videos would have the exact same space as some new image of a game no one cares about.

Like the idea of emphasis being shown on each news item, several times in the past news has passed me by, its been posten in a spate of posts and been lost down the list somewhere. Would like it to be somehwat dynamic (important / most commented on near the top, or in its own section or dynamically added to the then banner bar) but this is a nice compromised feature.

I'm sorry to say, but that looks just plain horrible. It's way too bloated and you are practically ruining one of the things that I like most about Gamersyde — its minimalism. Don't try to fix something that isn't broken.
