Unbelievable, especially considering that this is build that's already perhaps 4 months old.

No they aren't my affiliate, and yes I'm pissed that they'd try to do a direct link.

After careful study of the 720p clip, I think you can see how this game is actually going to look when it comes out... if you play the 720p clip and pause it at 1 minute and 3 seconds, you'll see a very jagged edged character and textures that look nowhere near as clear as the ones you'd remember seeing after watching this clip. I can't help but feel now that all this pre-launch footage includes rendered footage as well as in-game, and it's the rendered footage that is wowing everybody......

pause it at 57 seconds as well for another example of what I mean

I hope I'm wrong

p.s. I can't get screen grabs from Windows Media Player as they all come up with a black area where the movie still should be.
For that 1:03 pic, its just before the timer switches to 1:04 (can't get exact times), it;s of a guy crouching down firing a gun with a big rock to the left of the screen

i can see what you mean, the 2 scenes just look a bit blurry and low-res. i guess it would still be an impressive game with the gfx of this 2 scenes, but its not that perfect like the rest of the video. and a promo-video shouldnt have different quality-settings.

You're nitpicking on 2 seconds worth of footage in a work in progress clip from 3 months ago...?

Wow.

In a 'work in progress', quality is obviously going to vary, grabbing things from one group of artists to another to slap a promo together. Not to mention, that is what 720p looks like without FSAA. 720p is not much different than 1024x768, which is only a medium level resolution on a PC now days. With FSAA though, it's beautiful, and i'd prefer that over 1600x1200 or 1080p and no anti-aliasing anyday.

how lame of people to find something to nitpick over and useing windows media player to view stuff sucks thats the worse program you can use and the latest codecs matter as well. but this video is from a alpha kit back when e3 first started. And the graphics are top notch man cause you had to freeze frame just to find something to hate on and judge like those couple of frames that dont look bad are going to be how the actual game looks like. Please just save your negative comments for when the game is out.

WMP 10 is just fine. Sure you can't do everyting with it, but for everyday use Media Player is an easy choice. I have just WMP and Win DVD and I have never needed another program, never. To take screenshots you can use Movie Maker. On my old PC I had probably a dozen of different media players, but they tend to mess up your system if your're not careful with the settings and codecs.

Back to the topic: Gears of War was too heavy for the Alpha. So, Epic stepped out of the line and used their own PC configuration to show off the game. SLIed GeForce 6800s give you much more graphical power than one Radeon 9800. This is why I don't believe that GoW is going to look much better on the final hardware. And, of course, there is no need to look better -- I just hope they are able to add fully destructible environments because these games need destruction to give you an adrenaline boost.

omg you just have to press "pause" to see that this 2 scenes are low-res and without AA..... nothing special...no new codecs needed ,and i dont care if its an alpha kit...its a promo video and a promo video should show the best of the best...thats why its a promo....

i dont think im lame cause i have 2 eyes and use them
