Trailer PS3

Polyphony Digital probably decided it was time to show a bit more of Gran Turismo 5 so they released this tribute to the new Ferrari 458 Italia. The car looks gorgeous and it will obviously be playable in the game when it's released. Beautiful!

I feel like it uses a lot of really obscure camera angles switching back and forth between pre-rendered and in-game shots, making the in-game parts a little hard to analyze. There's a clear difference in the "Wow... there's no way" and the "That looks really good" spots but the angles make it hard to really break it down. This one, to me, looked strikingly similar to Forza3. I would have thought it was the same game if nobody had told me the difference (other than the pre-rendered stuff).

Not ingame. We already know what it looks like from replays and show footage. This is 100% in engine and probably using the same model, however, and for that is still impressive. :D

"A Tribute....by the makers of Gran Turismo"

Its not a real time trailer. I know GT5 looks good, but its certainly not that good. Looks like the engine tho

There's a Forza 3 vid of a very similar kind out right now. What's interesting to note is that on Forza, the car will be very likely be released as DLC...

PD seem to get away with it easier though, i mean their marketing for GT:PSP is pretty much all pre-rendered footage at a resolution far higher than the psp outputs and realtime high res reflections on the cars.
GT5 will look amazing, they are able to just balance everything so well to make everythin look solid and that it belongs, no crazy lighting, candy coloured grass and trees etc, plus in prologue u could look behind u in the cockpit and see out the back window, unlike FM3.
But this vid, certainly all the closeups is pre-rendered with super high res assets and possibly some form of ray traced reflections. But they interspace it with in-engine stuff, or at least a quality that could be in-engine.

I'd say next gen we may get cars that are as detailed as the start of this vid, easily double the poly's of the cars.

There is a trailer of Forza 3 like this (also a tribute) where they show off the amazing reflections on the cars and windshields. But Forza 3 doesn't even have a windshield in cockpit view. To me that is just stupid.

ah well, what do I know about it?
GT5 is the exact same way.

Was that a Ferrari 458 Italia commercial? Because, it told me nothing about GT5.

Beautiful car, but the important question is: will GT5 allow me to wreck it?

The car looks more... dunno if it's more realistic. But it looks more solid. The environments of Forza 3 are much better though.

I think the main difference between this trailer and the FM3 one is that with the FM3 trailer, it's obvious that the game clearly looks like that because we've all seen it from the multitude of replay and dev videos. It is clear that it's the actual game, whereas with this trailer, it's really difficult to believe because it just looks slightly too good to be true and doubtful that it's the actual game itself. From the replay videos seen from last month, there's no way that this is in-game. No doubt GT5 will look great, but it's not the first time PD have pulled this sort of thing. They're both amazing looking games, but the obvious question being of what if T10 had been developing FM3 for almost 5 years, how good would it turn out to look over GT5?

If it were all realtime then I'm sure Sony/Polyphony would have made it very clear.

Yeah, they'd be blowing their own trumpet like that bloke from T10, and rightly so.
