Ungh this has to to be 4 weeks away might as well be a year, so insanely excited! It is exactly how I pictured a real online GTA experience to be. I'm confused though, does the online mode have a completely different story or are these single player missions replayed with an online avatar?

Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies said GTA Online could have launched at the same time as the main game, but that the studio considers it to be "a different entity, a separate thing".

He explained: "It'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA 5. Obviously it's set in the GTA 5 engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing." Access to GTA Online will come for free with every retail copy of GTA 5.

Pretty sure you get different heists and stuff in GTA Online. SP is sp, that's it.

Online portion looks too damn ambitious for current gen. Would love to see how everything will works.

16 players just? At last, one of the limitations of current gen rears it's ugly head once more. For a world of the size of this game, 16 players is a bit anemic. If this ever does find its way onto next gen platforms, I'd expect that number to double if not quadruple.

Kind of Glad its 16 players, it makes sense when you think about the world it's in, like 64 players taking down a bank won't work, but 8 robbers vs 8 cops would

I don't think that would necessarily make it better. I mean, just because the world is big doesn't mean it needs to be filled with real players.

Considering their the focus co-operative play against A.I. It seems to very much be designed for 16 players.

Looks pretty fantastic.

yeah 16's fine... the world is still full of AI. Races, co-op ect will probably be match making in the background as your free roam? so I imagine if you wanna race, shootout ect you're not gonna be too far away from finding one.. will probably just morph you to a cut off section of the map once a race starts ect.. so I doubt the games ever gonna feel empty with only 16 players.

I wonder how big the downloads gonna be.. i'm already milking the gigs of my ps3 harddrive. And my 360, not a chance.. I have like 5 games waiting qued to download as it is.

I would imagine most of the content comes on the GTA V disc.

There's certainly nothing wrong with 16 players. Still fun to be had there. But again it comes down to the scale. If you enter a free roam game online by yourself and then go off and try to find other players to interact with: bit of a problem there. Certain game types would benefit from a higher player count, especially if you had squads of players or clans.

It's probably all peer-to-peer. Next gen won't fix that if they don't use dedis.

I think this news means R* intends to do an actual MMO or at least expand on the idea somewhere down the line. But there's a lot more to take into account than just player counts. In GTA IV it was so easy for one or two players to just be dicks and crash helicopters/cars into any objective. Really ruined the flow of the game on occasion. So I think there's more to the balance then just increasing how many players are in a lobby.

I think the next gen ubisoft approach to persistent online worlds is best. Basically a radial 'bubble' of players that it matches you with on the fly. That limits the amount of players within the bubble itself to avoid things getting chaotic, but removes the issue of having to actually find players in such a vast city.

I am not quite sure I understand this whole persistent world thing, but will we be able to make our own private servers that only our friends can join or will we have to join specific servers similar to PC?
