Pretty lame that SEGA ported the unimpressive Mega Drive conversions of these arcade classics, and not the original versions. 3D stuff like Space Harrier in particular was leagues better in it's original coin-op version.

Because people are retards. I showed GGX2 to my cousin and his first remark was about how assy the graphics were, so i think this is an attempt to cater to the pixel-haters :P

Exactly, why would I play an inferior port when emulation is out there for the original coin ops, plus there are mega drive emulators out there as well. All a bit pointless, IMO.

Except emulating is illegal unless you actually own the cartridges, and even then you have to either rip the rom yourself or have the right version for it to be completely legit. If you want to play it fair and square, this is about as good as it gets i think.

I prefer the filters myself, becuase if you own a hdtv pixels look just horrid.(ive been a gamer since the early 80s too, and love pixels. I just cant stand them on newer tvs) That said, there should be a filter option to turn them off.

As for emulation, Ive tried a lot of emulation and I just cant get into it. Sure the games are better looking than the original and you can get versions from the arcade, but its missing something special that I just cant place my finger on. I guess I just hate playing console games on a PC. Even on console or psp emulators its just not as fun as the original game was. Dont even really know how to explain it, guess I just like to own things.

What? were these conversions Europe only?
The US never had any of these games on the Genesis.

I'm thinking the color pallette looks a bit high for these to be on that system anyway, so they are probably the coin-ops but it's hard to tell with that nasty filter.

I can't believe I once felt the same way about these games as I do Killzone 2 and Crysis today lol

Space Harrier certainly did. Though it was called Space Harrier 2 and came out in the first couple of years of the consoles life.

However, I don't remember Shinobi coming out on the MD when I owned one. AFAIK it went Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Super Shinobi 2 then it moved to the Saturn. I wonder if some of these are from the Sega Ages collections.

The last two look like Arcade machines.

I know that one of the reasons why Golden Axe on Xbox live arcade was the MD version was that Sega lost the source code. Though if you emulate it doesn't matter. I would much rather have the arcade title where they can.

Edit - By the Power of Wikipedia it says that Shinobi and Space Harrier are arcade conversions! Which makes what I said before rubbish, so why are we getting the crappy Golden Axe and Alien Storm versions! :(

Actually, the game does feature a few arcade games to unlock. Like Space Harrirer, Shinobi and Fantazy Zone to name a few.

Yeah, I think the world over got Space Harrier 2, which kinda sucked only because Segy didn't think ahead hardwarewise :(

The only version of Alien Syndrome we ever had was the Master System though.
I probably would have leaped naked onto a Arcade-Genny version.

At least the MegaDrive version of Golden Axe is somewhat competent, and features more levels than the arcade.
But still...
