THQ and JAKKS Pacific announce the development of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 on almost every platform available, including the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be possible to create its own finishing move (Create-A-Finisher), to complete some storyline events in co-op (Road to Wrestlemania) and download more content online.

I might try to rent it, being as I haven't played a Smackdown game in years. But I really wish AKI would come back to making wrestling games like the N64 days.

What happened to the PS3 Screens? Aliasing all over the place, horrible textures and fade colors!

Either the 360 screens are touched up or this developer's incompetent with the PS3.

Wow that's a big difference, Surly there must be a mistake?
Everything on the PS3 version looks worse, Textures, FSAA, lighting and even the crowd. Even touching up the 360 version can't make that much difference can it?

The game has looked the same for the past 4 years, even with the last gen games, it hasn't changed, its the same regurgitated crap year in year out it would seem now.

Hold on, surely EA has something to do with this right?

There's no mistake. There's no coincidence. I think by now, the mythical power of PS3 being a lot more powerful Vs 360 has long been dispelled. The so called weaker console is constantly producing better looking versions of the same title. I wonder why? Hmm.

PS3 version is a disgrace, how long is this gonna continue??? PS3 has been out for almost 18months now, the "new hardware" is no longer an excuse now, this is embarrasing.

don't cross platform games share the same assets and both versions look near identical as a result? how come it looks worse on the PS3? i mean really, compare it to the 360 shots and it looks worse. obviously the coders need to do thier homework on the PS3 as it able to produce fine visuals if devs know how to use it.

EDIT: after close inspection of the screens, the 360 version also appears to have a better detailed crown than the PS3 version.

I'm sure if a lot more time and resources were spent on the PS3 version, it could look better... or at least just as good.

What the hell is this? C'mon guys, you could've at least made some effort to make sure that the ports were fairly equal.

Has to be something to do with the screens, that or it actually is mislabelled, meaning the ps3 shots are indeed from the ps2 version (which we didn't think existed!)

There must be a mistake, The PS3 isn't that under powered if at all over the 360. Fight night was just as goods looking on the PS3. I'm thinking they're PS2 shots.

PS2, Wii, PS3, 360

I'm sure that must be the case.

I was thinking the PS3 shots were actually the PS2 at first too but look at the crowds, there's no way a PS2 could handle that much 3D crowd.
Commented on 2008-03-29 22:34:25
Yeah but look at the crowd in the 360 images, There is no way the 360 is that much better than the PS3. Don't get me wrong I'm a complete 360 freak(look at my sig), but I'm also realistic and there is no way the 360 would look that much better than the PS3 end of....
Commented on 2008-03-29 22:53:45
maybe the 360 is further along in development

EDIT: oh and look over at IGN the ps3 picks here are there on the ps3 section so it is infact ps3 screens and not ps2.

Well, unless there's a press error on their part, these are indeed PS3 assets.

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 (PS3)
Five PS3 screenshots
The only noticeable thing on the press website was that the four Xbox 360 screens were not resized so I had to do it (original res = 5120x2880 vs. 1280x720 for the PS3 ones).

Yay for more shitty PS3 ports.

Besides, Smackdown games never looked that great to me.

I haven't watched the WWE since I was 13, but I still really enjoy playing these games, especially for their customisation options. Being able to create your own finisher sounds pretty awesome, but the "enhanced tag team" matches, not so much. At this point it does seem like they picked a random idea out of a hat to slap some new features on and pass off as a new gameplay element.

The series has a lot of flaws that badly need to be fixed before I bother with another one. I just hope the TNA game turns out to be good, and does to Smackdown what Skate did to Tony Hawk.

I wouldn't say this look like a PS2 game, I wish that comparison would stop. I think comparing it to a Dreamcast game is more accurate graphic wise

About the game

What's up?
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Except.. clickers are really popular.. so not everyone realizes the pointlessness :D (23 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth cookie clicker brilliantly captures that transition from being obsessed with the grind to realizing the pointlessness of it. (39 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth rankings/ladders are more meaningful. they meter your skill level and can be motivation to improve. but grind kind of meters just feels so pointless. (43 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX In this kind of game I prefer that it doesn't have too much of an impact on gameplay. Like people still like filling bars in OW but there are only cosmetic unlocks. (45 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth he could watch the Time Played meter, it will never be full :D (45 minutes ago)
  • Melmoth
Melmoth but the bars used to have more impact on the gameplay. like levling in an rpg. (46 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I don't find it surprising.. people reacted the same way to SWBF.. and compared to the last few Battlefield games it's a light package. (46 minutes ago)
