Madden NFL 06 360: 8 images

EA released the following 720p-images from their american footy-game Madden NFL 06. The game is beautiful in-motion, and I'm not sure if the following images make the game justice.

I agree manager, but I dont like how the textures on the players are really high res yet the ground textures and building textures are so low res. It kind of craps on the all around experience. Like in the Mike Vick screen, the player portal with the Falcons logo on it, its muddy from that far out. Thats just pathetic. Also, players should be wearing long sleeve shirts under their jerseys in the cold condition games, and the fans should have coats. These are small gripes I know, but when EA promises an authentic experience, I want it.

Vick's Arms look really weird... The gfx do look good though.

Yeah, those direct-feed videos where they zoomed in to the pitch looked kind of crappy. I think the vid we had up here (until EA wanted it down), where we got the "right" camera angle, looked much better.

On the other hand, I've only play NFL Street and know little about the sport. The animations in my favorite sports-game PES are top-notch, and I never expect any other game to have as good animations.

Needs volumetric grass. Everything else is very nice.

Gotcha, we have gotten alot of media today for madden. These screens and some fansites got 1 exclusive picture.

You guys know if EA is sending you any videos to you today?

Madden is one of the only games that made a significant change in graphic quality in the past month. Most of the other 360 games look the same since they've been announced.

Looks really nice I think. The gameplay doesn't look that great though.

Why would they give up when they know that a million people are going to buy it?

I looked at the vids, then I looked at the screens, and then did it again. The sad truth is these are the same player models, these are the same animations and the same game. Only difference is the texture mapping. If you are a person of low-expectations you would probably praise this as a next gen madden, but to anyone who has done a lick of graphic design or video game work its obviously just a port . Pretty much the same as the Xbox version of Splinter Cell vs the PS2 version. I also would'nt hold out hope that the Maddens to come will be any different seeing that the last gen consoles will remain viable platforms for atleast 2-3 more years.

well, EA have claimed that NBA Live and Madden are their only two games built from teh ground up for the 360, their other franchises are ports.

*cue "EA is liar" argument*

Well, these shots are pretty amazing I think--but then again it's EA so hey I don't even know if they're 90% real, let alone 100! :)

Edit: by amazing, I mean, they look way better than what it used to.

Looking good though, I too though am glad I don't like football games, heh.

I'll wait for Madden 07. Maybe I can get this at a discounted price.

Where is the self soft shadowing (like in the target render)?

Where is the real grass (like the targer render)?

Where is the dynamic/advanced animation (like Endorphin)?

Why do the jerseys and pants have prebaked folds?

Why do a lot of the guys keyed into the same exact stance? Why are there no footprints in the snow to the WRs and CBs? Where is the dynamic and individual wear-and-tear markings, blood, dirt, grass stains on each individual player?

The stadiums are beautiful and Madden games play well in general. But with cut features (ditto NBA Live) and no real advancement in gameplay and seemingly slapped together/upgraded Xbox/PC engine I am NOT impressed.

About the game

What's up?
  • KORNdog
KORNdog [url] so cool (21 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog hellblade and ryse both had way more basic combat that literally just centered around weak and strong attacks. there was nothing else there to play around with. (23 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog and then you have the boy, who distracts, staggers and sets you up for more volleys. now compare that to hellblade or ryse...and you honestly can't see the difference? (26 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog then you've got the elements associated with the axe itself, where you can freeze enemies (and i assume other elements will be introduced later too) and do powered up elemental attacks (27 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog there seem to be a decent depth to the combat in god of war. with staggers, shield barges, slow mo air juggles, grabs, axe throws, and standard hacking. (28 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @alimokrane: if you think that looks like ryse then i really don't know what to tell you. doesnt look anything like ryse or hellblade to me outside of a camera angle. (30 minutes ago)
  • AndreasZ94
AndreasZ94 @alimokrane: agree, if the enemy variety is there as well it could be an awesome combat system, especially for an over the shoulder camera game. Camera does zoom out for larger fights btw (1 Hour ago)
