Magna Carta 2 images and trailer

Magna Carta 2, announced and forgotten long ago, still exists. And even more surprising, it's going to be released in 2 months in Japan. Here is a whole bunch of images and artworks of the game, along with a HQ trailer.

Wicked artwork! This game looks pretty good. Who is developing it?

WTF? These aren't screen shots, these are thumbnails!!! They don't have HD in Japan or something?

See, I don't get it with all the JP publishers. Damned near every last one of them, whenever they cough up promotional pics of their games, act like they are afraid to show off their game in HD or something. It's not just screen grabs either, I've seen them do it repeatedly with promotional videos, this gen. Thank goodness that at least the trailer for Magna Carta II is in 720p, normally when it is a Japanese-only release, you are lucky to if you ever get promotional vids in HD. Of course the only reason this one is in HD, is likely because it was shown at the Microsoft press event. Had it been released outside of such an event, I wonder if it would have been SD, like so many other trailers for JP-only game releases?

What's with that? Are these people living in the 20th Century? Are thumbnails of upcoming games really what the Japanese audience crave, or have JP publishers simply lost touch with any kind of audience? I'm seriously asking this question, because I honestly do not understand the practice - it just does not make any sense.

I can understand if the game is on Wii or one of the portables or something, But for Xbox and Playstation, anything less than HD screens, is damned near asinine.

And then you get to the artwork for the game, and the JP publishers give you images large enough to poster your game room wall with. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate it anytime I can get game artwork large enough to make it worth while printing out myself (instead of having to buy the art book). But, why can't we get screen shots that big? Are JP publishers that embarrassed about their games, they can't even provide proper screen shots and videos of their games in action, as part of their promotional build up to the game's release?

Just weird.

Other than that, the game looks pretty good. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a much better title than the original. Graphically, it looks like a very cleaned up PS2 game. And funny enough, I am actually fine with that so long as the game is fun to play. However, I still think games like this, even RPGs, should be released on LIVE Arcade in an episodic format. Graphically the game really does not push the system, and I think that games like that will have a much tougher time competing at full retail pricing. However, if you split it up into 4 or 5 episodes (depending on how long the game is) and sold it at $10 to $15 an episode, I think a lot more people would bite - especially on that first episode. If the game is any good and the story compelling enough, the later episodes would sell just as well. Sony did something similar with the Siren remake on PSN, and as I understand, it did pretty well. I think more JP publishers should look into that as a way to get their games to sell better . . . especially the games that do not push the power of the system.

Looks interesting, never played MC1, I'm on the fence with the art style, not sure if I like it or not.

Ah, I remember how atrocious the first game was, and how I wasn't sure if the lead character was male or female until looking at the game booklet.

hmm.. the other 360 exclusive JRPGs looked a lot better than this one in my opinion (not only from a graphical side)

Magna Carta is a Korean game :) So is MC2. Just published by a Japanese publisher.

The game looks beautiful to me thanks to the amazing artwork.

The artwork does look great. But this all seem very similar. I swear I've seen that bridge in the first MC game.

The first Magna Carta was meh, but this could go either way.

As an aside, the character designer for this game is the same guy who does the designs for Blade and Soul (MMORPG from NCSoft) and IMO his designs translate much better to that game:

looks decent...I agree that the blade and soul style would have suited better

unreal engine 3..
GTFO.

Apart from just being rude to retarded comments, i think the art style carried over really well into the game graphics. Looks pretty cool, but if it plays anything like it's predecessor it will suck donkey nuts.

If you seriously think that, then that's pretty sad.

totally underwhelming. if it is indeed unreal 3 engine, its really badly used. this is the worst shot:
http://images.gamersyde.com/gallery/public/10349/1...
and it does not get really better than that in the best shot. recently saw newly released images of Huxley at eurogamer.pt, and clearly unreal 3 engine has lost the magic.
even 99 nights was better looking than these. quite frankly, a ps2 game in hd.

I just hope that the battle system will make sense a little. Seriously, the first one's battle was so ridiculous, I shut out the whole game.
