Marc Ecko's Getting Up trailer

Marc Ecko's Getting Up trailer

Atari released this trailer of Marc Ecko's Getting Up, which I think looks really good for an Xbox 1-game. Too bad they couldn't get the game out before the release of the 360.

I have to say I'm quite tired of the "street thug" theme of games lately, but having said that, the gameplay does look quite fun in this game..

I think the key point of this game is that it is not a "shoot the police" type game. It is suppose to be an intelligent, honest view of urban America. I am definitely going to pick it up.

Ditto. I have been keeping a sharp eye out for this title for over a year now, and everything points to a game attempting to truly set itself apart from all the GTA-wannabes out there like 50Cent Bulletproof, True Crime, 187 Ride or Die and all the other jokes that attempt to sucker urban youth into purchasing trash games in a bid to capitalize on the ease of getting the urban youth to purchase just about anything that looks hip.

Having an intelligent take on any life much less urban life, in games is always a breath of fresh air on the few occasions which a developer decides to grace us with such goodness. I have very high hopes for Marc Ecko's Getting Up and really hope that the game can live up to the truly lofty goals that the developers have set for it. It's not often that we get a game with innovative gameplay, and even less often a game with a social conscience attempting to make an honest social commentary and give voice to a sub-culture that is often villified or overlooked. Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure is attempting to do both and for that I wish them the best of luck. And I will be checking out this little gem when it releases early next year.

The real tragedy would be if this game turns out to be awesome and no one buys it - especially with all the other games that were designed specifically for the purpose of capitalizing on the urban culture trend and that only serve to reinforce all the negative images and stereotypes surrounding urban life and the people who live it (the new millenia version of the 1970's Blacksploitation films) are all selling like hotcakes.

About the game

What's up?
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Moonwalker: probably an extra smaller scale game maybe (bully 2). or it would just shave a year off a mainline GTA dev cycle. fact is they're making very detailed open worlds, it takes time. (1 minute ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog things will go digital, as much as i fight it, i can see it happening by PS6. but streaming seems like a novel way to get around BC and nothing more. (3 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog especially with the stonger focus on bigger resolutions. we can barely stream 720p with reasonable input lag, how do you expect them to do it 4k or hell, 8k? (4 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @droezelke: given there seems to be a lack of development in that area recently, with most forerunners giving up entirely. i doubt that's the future (6 minutes ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker You do have to wonder how it would have looked right now if GTAO hadn't been that insane succes. Would've we had more Rockstar games on current gen now? I think so (7 minutes ago)
  • alimokrane
alimokrane @droezelke: Streaming in 8k... maybe (32 minutes ago)
  • droezelke
droezelke @KORNdog: I don't believe there will be a PS6. By that time I suspect it will become a streaming service. (49 minutes ago)
