One of the best games ever created on the face of this tiny planet.

I salute you, Boss & Big Boss.

I'm counting the days.

Is die blonde een vrouw? Ze heeft het gezicht van een man.
Please try to keep it in English. It's not my native langauge either (I'm actually from Belgium) but if everyone starts to post in their own language... well, things could get complicated :)

And to answer your question: yes, she's a woman.

looks very impressive, i'm wondering if an entire game can look that good on the DS tho. becasue other games i've seen look pretty bad.

Best MGS game thus far remade may actually convince me to purchase my first handheld...I would have to see the 3D for myself first before any final decision...

i'm sure it'll work great but the price is the issue. i heard it's going to be a little shy of PS3 prices? that's just not worth it for a handheld imo. i rarely touch my DS and PSP as it is. it's usually a case of "why play a handheld when i can play a "propper" console game"

I'm willing to pay alot for this. in....really alot.

Alot as in.....3 digits.

The whole to carry it with me everywhere I go?

Kojima/nintendo has done it again.

@Sath: The Boss > Big Boss > Solid Snake ;)

Why are people stoked about this? You get to play a 5 year old game in the shittiest conditions possible. Yay.

Why not jsut bust out the old PS2 and play that shit on your big ass tv, with surround sound and a comfy couch? No, play it with shit headphones on a bus with a 3 inch screen! The 3D is totally worth it!

Yeah, biggest drawback of handhelds is.. you try to sit on a couch and wham, warped onto a bus.

Happened to me a while ago though..

I was lying in bed..all cumfy with my headphones n stuff...playing on zi handheld..when suddenly!

..a bright flash and....... o_0......0_o ...... -_- ' there I was...inside an airbus.

It's weird but you get used to it after playing zi handheld for a while.

Much as I wanted to resist buying a 3DS it just has too many promising games to ignore. Looks like Nintendo will be getting more of my money for another of their spectacularly ugly bricks/handhelds. Damn them.

Yeah, that is pretty annoying actually.

Seriously though, not much of a defense. Why 3DS over PS2 if you are still just plaing it on the couch? The PS2 is also like 200 bucks cheaper as compensation for the lack of 3d.

I also don't understand this remake frenzy. Seems like nintendo talks a lot about innovation but does very little of it. The 3DS needs original games that use the 3d, not rehashes of old PS2 and n64 games. I think teh launch line-up is utterly pathetic for the 3DS, reflecting how shitty the audience for games is today. Seerms like the only thing people wants anymore is bloody remakes. It's all Starfox this, paper mario that and shove some pilot wings in there while you are at it, people loves that shit, right? Then again games are not teh only thing subject to remakes, seems taht every other damn movie is a remake or revival nowdays as well.

I just think it's a bit frustrating taht we have a new piece of hardware here and the only think that springs to developers minds are damn remakes and ports. I'm sure there will be good titles for the 3DS though, given time but the Nintendo franchise spam will most likely outweigh any creative effort on the platform by about 10 to 1, not to mention the attrocious amounts of shovelware it will no doubt see.

[/bitter old coot rant]

Well, I jumped on the couch comment because it was the one that seemingly discredited handhelds as systems you'd want to play at all. I love handhelds, and of course you can get "comfy" with one, the same way you would with a book.

Other than that I largely echo your sentiment about some experiences being best suited to the telly and stationary consoles, and that's why I think 90% of the PSP's output is garbage. And then I'm talking about the good stuff that's still HOPELESSLY misdeveloped as a "handheld" game. Concessions should be made to the format they're on, and there's such a thing as a perfect handheld game that isn't Tetris or Lumines. Those two just happen to be.. Mr and Mrs God.

But it's largely about structure and momentum, I think, and for what it's worth I think MGS3 has a pretty good structure for a handheld game. One where you can make some progress, save "state" or whatever and put it away to bring it back up when you wanna dive back in. I think strategy RPGs translate well, too, and Final Fantasy Tactics and Valkyria Chronicles 2 make good PSP games to me.

As for remakes, I hear ya. I think remakes are an ENORMOUS waste of resources. I wanna punch people who rather play the same game again than want something new. However, it's system launch time.. and not only that, it's system launch time where the system has this new semi crazy gimmick to it. Nothing brings out the ports like a system in need of low risk guinnea pigs.

I personally don't like handheld games much in general but i'm not saying that there isn't a point to portable systems. But much like you said, a portable system needs a certain type of game. I don't want to play a 3-hour pass on a PSP, if i did all my fingers would look like Megan Fox's thumb and my neck would get stiff.

A portable game needs to have that pick-up-and-play factor, something that i kind of don't think a title like MGS 3 has. There's just so many long winded cutscenes and Codec dialogues and crap, if you start palying you could end up watching shit happen for 20 minutes without even playing, and that's not good for a handheld. Same thing with FF Tactics (i only ever played the original on PS1 though), there's just so much management and stuff to keep track of that i think it might be a wee bit flow breaking to just jump in and out of the same battle several times. Not to mention tha fact that some battles can take quite a while to finish.

Personally i find that less story-oriented titles with more action based gameplay works best for portable titles. Like Castlevania Rondo of Blood worked well as a portable title; you don't really have to remember what you did before you put the PSP in sleep mode, all that matters is that there is a flea man in front of you taht is in serious need of some grade-a whipping. Seeing as how taht one never saw european or american release i'll let the port/remake factor slide just this once ;)

Still that's just an example of one type of game that i think is very pick up and play friendly. It doesn't have to be an action title, but i think a good rule of thumb for a portable title should be that they are focused on what's coming, and not so much on keeping track of what you did earlier in the game. Long winded dungeons, drawn out strategic combat and RPG storylines are things that i just can't see combined well with portable systems.

You know what game i play the most on teh go? Rogue Touch on my iPhone. Kill monsters, find loot, level up and see how far down in teh dungeon you can get. It's great, even if i'm at level 18 i always know that no matter what i did the last time i played, i'm still just exploring the level i'm on and looking for the stairs to the next level.

But this is just how i think, but i only ever play handhelds either on the go or on the toilet, and even tehn i usually prefer a book in those instances. For me gaming is something you do on your TV. But like i said; i have no real gripe against portable systems, they just aren't my prefered way of gaming.

As for remakes, if you are going to do a remake at least do it with a title that NEEDS a remake. I mean, if it was out on the SNES it doesn't need a remake. NES...maybe, but not by NESessity (pa-dum-pshh!). C64, now we are starting to talk ok to remake territory in my book. A n64 game still plays alright, you can still play OoT and enjoy it, it doesn't need a remake or port and the N64 is still readily available. But we all know that stuff will sell like hotcakes, cause who wants a new game when we can walk down that well trodden path once more?

I just saw this video on my phone, and my forehead was tingling the entire time, even though the video is just 2D. The use of perspective in the game is absolutely fantastic, especially on such a small screen (4" in the case of my phone). I'm definitely buying the 3DS, even if it is only for this game.
