Looks like a really nice statuette and the fact that you get a number is nice too. Too bad the game is gonna suck shit and the MK aesthetic is so damn terrible :P

Yeah, the coarse sculpt looks like fan-art, not professional level 3D work.

Bitter much?

The game looks amazing and has received praise from both the critics and the fans during evens like GamesCom and PSX.

When it comes to fighters, critics can suck a fat one. There is NO WAY you can get in to and understand a fighter in just a few days of playing it for a review. MK is great for all the scrublords out there that want a game that is easy to play and where you get to the little mind games fast, but it's not on par with VF, Tekken or Soul Calibur. KoF, Streetfighter and Guilty gear/blazblue completely wreks Mortal Kombat in terms of mechanics and depth as well, if you want to stick with 2d fighters. Love me some of that KoF, but the inputs are too difficult for me to play it well :P

MK9 and Injustice are really bad fighters, that hinge on dumb cutscenes and gore, rather than sound and fun core mechanics. Take the time to get in to one of the good fighters and you'll soon realize that MK has very little to offer. Perhaps they shaped up with MKX, i don't know, but going by their previous efforts i don't think they understand how to properly design and balance a competitive fighter. As for the visuals, i mean...come on. It's designed to appeal to 12-year olds. Not by necessity saying that my favorite games do much better (love me some Tekken but the characters are really silly most of the time). I think KoF has some of the best and coolest characters, actually. They are not as extravagant a lot of the time but that's kinda what sells it for me. The fact that they are a bit more subdued makes them feel like actual characters.

I mean, are you in to fighters or is it just MK you like? If the later, then i think the argument is over.

Edit* actually the only criticism i need of MK9 is that it took my buddy like an afternoon to find easy death combos with like the 3 characters he tried. Such balance!

That's a bit of a harsh comment. Almost absurd, actually. I think that's a decent-looking design. I like it. It's clean, modern, and most importantly, it's separate from the original design, which most fan art basis itself on. To say it's not professional level is ridiculous when the two guys that worked on it are obviously professionals at what they do.

As for MK not being able to compete with the more hardcore fighters, it's obviously not meant to, nor was it ever intended to since its conception. MK's shtick has always been a completely different thing. I thought that was obvious, and nor does it make the game, especially these newer ones, "suck shit". If the objective is fun, the previous game succeeded in a big way.

Pretty sure Mr Boon himself said that they were aiming to make a competitive fighter that could be played at tournaments with MK9. And it did show up at EVO one year, but i don't think it's been there again nor will it ever be :P

What's so absurd about me thinking the speacial sculpt looks very plain and simple, even a bit cheap in the detailing? It looks clean for sure, to the point where it looks like a half-done model. Oops, forgot to actually sculpt the details...well, let's just rig this bad boy and send it off to print!

Stylized doesn't have to mean no details at all, cause right now it just looks like smoothed primitives, aside from the lims that look likme a 20-minute rough sculpt that someone wen't over with the carve brush in zbrush. The other SE statuette looks by far more impressive and competently made imo.

What's absurd is saying that it doesn't look professional, when it obviously does and is. Don't like the design as a matter of opinion, that's fine. You still need a bit of talent and skill to make a model like that.

It's professional in the sense that someone got paid to make it. It look unprofessionally done to me, as it could clearly do with a few more iterrations and detailing. Right now it just lacks the fidelity i'd expect from a skin in a game like this. The material quality is laughable, it just looks like a straight blinn, the detailing is incredibly lacking and the entire model just looks like a smoothed low-poly mesh. Again, the limbs look like they had a quick pass through zbrush but that's about it. It looks like like something a rather unexperienced 3d-artist might make. Honestly, just look at the belts and the buckle things. It's just cubes tacked on. They didn't even bother to make it look like an actual belt. Stylized and lazy are two different things. This clearly looks like the later to me.

Not to mention that the other statuette clearly shows that they have people and equipment to produce very high quality 3d prints and great paint jobs.

That coarse looks like shit. Why did they choose this company, instead of Mcfarlane Toys?!!
Luckily the hand painted one looks gorgeous.
