Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is back with these new images showing the new design and the old one. Needless to say I am really looking forword to its release.
The new look is great in stills, but I really don't like how cardboard cutout it gets when things start animating. It's super jarring in a way that the original art isn't, for some reason.
That, and voice acting sorta sets tone in stone, tone that I've - over the course of playing these games countless times - have gotten a pretty specific idea of for myself.
It's neat that they're coming with a glass of HD-ized, fully voiced water to help newcomers swallow what's otherwise probably pretty old and stuffy looking though. The writing is still bloody excellent, and the delightfully melody driven music - though not the Amiga awesomeness it once was - still stands in stark contrast to what's largely unremarkable stringy nonsense these days.
