Still the best cloth sim I've seen in a game. Nothing else comes close. And they've been doing it since 06...

You're right, but NBA players do not use baggy jerseys anymore, they use them tighter these days, and 2K Sports haven't done anything about that.

fine by me- looks impressive this way. I don't get why it isn't used more in games- it really makes a huge difference!...

I don't think we see it much because it's either pointless due to having few ways to show it off, or would be too resource hungry for the games which could show it off (like a third person shooter or something)

Basketball is kinda perfect for this sort of tech. Few players, small court, not much else going on, camera close enough in to warrent it. Now compare that to fifa...it'd be wasted/too power hungry. Too many players, too large of a pitch, camera too far out to notice.

The fight night games where also perfect for this sort of thing with the boxers shorts, and did it better imo.

Why it isn't in things like tekken etc is beyond me, but i'd assume it could have something to do with the outfit itself. I'm guessing collision is less complicated when it's uber baggy shorts and baggy jerseys. It still goes wrong quite a bit though.

Even if it bugs out now and then I'll take it. The game is still doing it for, what?- TEN guys simultaneously. And we aren't talking cloaks and loin cloths. they are doing shirts and shorts- at a very realistic level. If you've ever messed with cloth sim, you know how impressive it really is. They also have a massive animation set for the players too.

I never thought Fight Nights cloth sim ever came close( although the last 2 games were still decent). It's just like it is in their own(EAs) basket ball franchise...

About the game

What's up?
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Not sure if they've improved much these days. (43 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite A lot of Japanese made games were guilty of that whenever voice acting become possible. I mean, aye, it was always cheese, but you tolerated it more back then (43 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX The voice acting was always regarded as pure cheese. (45 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Yeah, and the voice acting, something which back then, was great. Today it's just pure cheese. Sound design is often neglected to be mentioned over visuals when talking about progress in games. (46 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX This is what Shenmue combat looks like. It's not heavily based on QTE despite the game making QTE a buzzword: [url] (46 minutes ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Yeah a lot of it was very clunky. It did often boil down to QTE's to resolve "disputes" and chases, if I recall correctly. Mad how a lot of games to this day still do that. (47 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Still one of the better parts of the game. And it's not a bad game, but it's definitely a "good for its time" game.. which means.. maybe not actually good :D (48 minutes ago)
