Xbox 360

Bungie released this single Halo 3 image, supposedly a wallpaper. You can see some graphical difference between this and the E3 trailer, but there's really no reason to doubt anything this early.

the draw distance is fantastic. As far as huge chunks of metal go I think the master chief looks amazingly real. I just cant wait til that day when live says halo 3 demo available lol.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this, but in the E3 trailer when the camera is zooming out away from the Master Chief, the gfx looked much worse than when they showed him up close (similar to this screenshot). I smell bullshit. I bet anything that the scene with Master Chief walking towards the camera was all CG, pre-rendered, what they HOPE to make the game look like, and everything else in the trailer was real-time. Even watching the trailer the 1st time I noticed how as soon as MC starts walking up close, all of the sudden the shadow effects are better on the structure in the background and cast on the MC, and everything looks so much better...If im right then they fucked themselves.

Well your wrong lol. A few people got taken into a viewing room where they flew around the map in realtime and even lighted the master chief in different lighting. I think they made him move aswell.

except it isn't CG, bungie demoed the trailer for the press behind closed doors. they zoomed around to show it was in engine, and real time. so no bullshit, not CG, they didn't fuck themselves.

it looks like a lightning is different that's all. At this stage of development it could be many reasons why is that. H3 is not finished yet so i think best way is to wait and judge later then speak bullshit right now. Just one think more check early pic from Halo2 to see huge diffrenece between those screenshots and actual game, they have a lot of time so things will look only better no doubt.

It still wasn't gameplay. Realtime and gameplay aren't the same thing.

yeah i read about that, but I also read the framerate was very very low in the presentation, hopefully just because of the early stage? Eh...doesnt matter tho, I guess its too early to say anything.

But I do remember the first trailers of Halo2 and how they said it was all in real-time, and then when it was finally released the gfx were not nearly as good as in the first trailer. (the one with the MC on the ship and the gun rack).

The new picture we see now and the video we saw at e3 is the exact same and taken directly from the engine, The only difference is that the video clearly had a different color profile.

same ground texures, lighting on the ships, ground, material. Were looking at a total different perspective than what we saw on the trailer that's all.

watch the video MS released h3_e32006_announce_large.wmv, timing might be off but MPC tells me 01:50 is that exact shot only in a different perspective.

This could easyley be an in-game shot, halo 1 and 2 was pretty amazing graphics wise all we need to see now is gameplay, otherwise the picture looks pretty good.

The realtime cutscenes do look as good as the first trailer.

But you cant compare that trailer with the Halo 3 Trailer. Because this Halo 3 Cutscene was running in REALTIME on an Xbox 360 @ E3 Press Conference.

The only difference between the initial Halo 2 trailers and the finished game, in terms of graphics, is that Bungie dropped the stencil shadows. There's nothing absolutely mindblowing about the visuals in Halo 3, why would anyone think it not possible?

Manager dont say you doubt the trailer also?
Gamespot's carrie and jeff says its CGI,last year they said killzone 2 was real, and people who question it was fanboys.

Yet bungie say its real.......So who do you trust? Some game site or the developers?

MC looks the same, but the camera is just zoomed out so you can see less detail. The only thing that actually looks worse is the ground texture.

Look at what carrie and jeff says in their own private video.

Its one thing about the site saying it was real, its another thing when 2 staffmember says then they dont actually belive it.

It still wasn't gameplay. Realtime and gameplay aren't the same thing.
Gameplay = Real time = In engine. The only thing different is that usually in trailers that are in engine or real time, the camera will be posed about to make things look more cinematic or show of certain things.

Heres a quote from someone else who describes the situtation better.

For what it's worth: The Halo 3 content at Bungie.net is available. (Up until now, clicking any of the links in the Top Story or on B.net's home page simply redirected to the home page... but the section is now live.) The screenshots are all from the trailer (though they're considerably clearer than screengrabs), and the only wallpaper available is a 'Finish the Fight' one. The FAQ is worth reading - especially the bit about how the trailer is a real-time piece of work. That is: this trailer is NOT like the X02 trailer, which was rendered in-engine, but not in real time; this was recorded in real time, off stock Xbox 360 hardware. Yes, it looks that good.

I'm not seeing the difference between this and the E3 trailer. The lighting condition is just a little different.

This looks exactly the same as the E3 trailer, only with different lighting. It was mentioned in the private showing that they could change the lighting in real-time, so this looks like a night setting

The only difference I see between this and the video is that this screenshot has been shrunken and widened to appear like a wide-screen picture.

The shrinkage (lol) is what makes Chief look so weird.

Where'd you hear the framerate was slow?! Bungie themselves said the framerate was buttery smooth in last weeks update. Check it out non-believers!

Excuse me people, but there was nothing in the Halo3 trailer that should have left any doubt that it was real time. It was only an in-engine cutscene. What's the big deal? Even Halo2 had gorgeous cutscenes with excellent lighting and bump-mapping. The framerate sometimes stuttered for a second, but the graphical achievement really made me appreciate Bungie's effort to push the Xbox. Halo2 was developed on a system that was at least 3 times weaker than an Xbox360. So why wouldn't Halo3 either look the E3 trailer or surpass it by the time the game is released. The still shot here looks like the lighting is turned off. Master Chief has no shadow, but he still looks impressive. I can't complain at all. This is called being honest, and even for a game that won't be released until 2007, it's already looking killer.
