Xbox 360

After a lot of research and testing I've finally found what I think is the best way for me to convert videos to a format you guys can watch easily. Especially I'm very happy to finally have a good way to encode 30 fps without framedrops. I also modified my encoding program to be able to use the WMV9 codec without having to use the WVC1 codec a lot of people had trouble with, without any noticeable quality loss. Our friends the Mac users will be happy to learn that these new videos should work perfectly with Flip4Mac too. So as a test please download this video and let me know if you have problems or not watching it, and if it is smooth. If you stream your videos to your 360 via a Media Center PC, please give this a try too!
Update : I forgot to mention that the small pauses you can see from time to time are due to a playback bug in the spring update of the 360 dashboard. For example you should notice to such pauses in the first camera mouvement after the Capcom logo. If you see more, something's wrong :p

This is kinda unrelated, but not really. I've been having problems downloading videos from time to time, like right now with this one. I go to the openxbox360 link and click to download, but instead of getting a "save" dialogue box, it just starts spewing out the code of the file in my browser window and crashes it in seconds. I am pretty sure I have had this problem with the XY mirrors as well but not today.

The 2nd link on the page seems to be working...

That's because the openxbox server isn't configured correctly for the WMV mime type, most likely. I'll let Ryan know about that.
Yup, it sends a Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 header

Instead of video/x-ms-wmv

Some parts it doesn't run very smooth, but this could well be my laptop. Although, the graphics card should be able to handle 720p movies.

If you hit pause when the vid's framerate drops, then play, and the video plays nicely, then its your PC. Im downloading it.

Still stutters occasionally with sound. I think the codec is still too taxing. I can't even play it properly in WMP11, I need to use Media Player Classic. XVID still was the smoothest codec you guys ever had. I could actually play your Xvid stuff with firefox windows still open. With this I need to close all my browsers, and AIM.

your cpu does most of the work when rendering videos. My new core 2 duo eats threw these easily lol.

Actually most recent graphics card are able to do a lot of the grunt work with these videos. My encoding PC (quad core opteron 1.83@2ghz) could play a 720p xvid video, but it plays the far more taxing WMV9 stuff without breaking a sweat, thanks to the GPU acceleration.

Thanks, this video plays fine on my intel MacBook with Flip4Mac. I am glad you went back to the older way, I didn't like having to use a nightly build of VLC since it was very buggy and caused my computer to crash when entering full-screen the very first time I used it.

This one is much better!

Ok I downloaded from Open Xbox 360 at my max speed.

I left Firefox open with quite a few tabs, plus windows explorer, and then I played the video. Amazing!!! I hadn't seen this trailer yet. This game is looking good, the graphics are incredible too :D

BTW, if it helps, here are my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (2.2GHz)
Geforce 6600 256MB.....overclocked.
1GB RAM
Windows XP
Media Player 10

Ti4200 doesn't support video decoding acceleration, that's your problem here.

The video is fine, it just seems kinda lackluster since the last Lost Planet trailer I downloaded from XY was 60fps.

By the way, your CPU does most if not all of the work when you're trying to play high resolution video. If you have an older CPU, you can compensate for this by having a newer graphics card, like one from nVidia for example that is capable of using their PureVideo acceleration to offload the video decoding from the CPU to the GPU. Using that program resulted in MUCH improved performance on my 3.0ghz P4/6600GT computer- i.e. the couple year old 6600GT is still much better at decoding video than my couple year old CPU.
