Our PS4 videos of PES 2017

Our PS4 videos of PES 2017

Year after year, the PES franchise is getting better when it comes to pure gameplay, but the lack of licencing is still a problem for many players. This year's installment is no exception, with the obligation to edit the names of way too many European teams and jerseys, and it's a bit of a shame. On the pitch though, it's an incredibly fun game to play, alone or with friends, with a strong emphasis on passing. Check our videos inside and share your thoughts on the game in the comments if you feel like it.

Is this the full game? because transfers are not up to date.
Also don't forget the FIFA 17 demo which is also out :)

It is, and yes, they're not up to date, but hopefully it's because the servers are not up yet (at least they weren't in the afternoon).

On PC, there are many users' patches which add the official names, logos, etc.

For consoles, Konami could try to let people download patches like these from the internet - no official site to not be sued, or be able to import your edited teams from a previous version to a new one.

Even if the latter method isn't ideal, it would still be far less effort than redoing everything from scratch. I have no idea if they already allow this, as I haven't played a Pro Evolution Soccer game in years.

From what I know, it will be possible, at least on PS4.

Option files; and yes, it's a simple case of downloading one and then the game simply ports all the real kits, emblems, created players and tactics in a matter of minutes.

Though not misleading perse, I think it would be fair to note getting official stuff into ps4 is way less a hassle than the big annoyance you've described in the news item blurb.

Whether or not it's easy to do is not the point. It's not the 90s anymore, people don't want to wait until some fan does the job, period. As long as it keeps being this way, PES will never take the lead again, no matter how much effort the devs put into the gameplay itself. So sorry, but it has nothing to do with annoyance, and if you fail to see it, maybe you're too much of fan yourself. And to be clear, overall, I prefer PES over FIFA, so it's not like I'm biased or something.

To be brutally honest, ask most people who want a proper football game/sim to play, and they'll tell you they couldn't give a toss about licenses. What applied back then, also applies now. A good game should always take precedent over anything else. Fifa has always outsold it anyway due to the licenses, so nothing has changed.

I don't completely agree. Many PES players chose FIFA over the years, making it more difficult for them to go back to PES. Gameplay is of course the main reason, but licenses do matter for people who want to play a football game/sim. It would be different if FIFA wasn't that good, or if it was too arcadey as in the old days, but now things have changed. I don't really care that much about football, so not having the real names for the teams does not bother much, but the pajamas/jerseys, come on.

By the way, now the servers are up, the teams have finally been updated, so now everyone is where they should be. Playing for a week with Zlatan in Paris was quite odd.

I must say, I disagree with Fifa being good. It hasn't been fo a few years now, and this year's one just feels like 16 with added physicality. I say that having left PES for being bad, and went to Fifa because it improved, but it never improved enough. It's basically reverted back to how things used to be. Fifa now plays like basketball in comparison to where PES is at now. Konami knocked it out of the park with 17, and I don't think EA have it in them to better it. If they did, they would have taken Fifa down a more realistic approach to how football actually plays years ago. Every player and team still feels the same irrespective of how you try to play with them. No amount of gloss can cover up a shoddy title, especially when you take into account FUT and how scripted that is.
