Our videos of Project CARS

Our videos of Project CARS

You all know that our team is composed of a few virtual gentlemen drivers, so it probably won't come as a surprise to find out that we are all very interested in Slightly mad Studios' Project CARS. Here is a first series of 1080p videos of the pre-alpha build we captured using the 360 controller. More footage will come later this week, this time played with a driving wheel. To learn more about the game, and take a look at our videos, you know what to do.
Uodate: One more video added.

The concept behind the game

Project CARS is not your typical racing game in that it gives you the opportunity to take part in the developing process. To do so, all you need to do is to give the studio a small amount of money (or more if you are the businessman type), which will grant you the right to download the latest build of the game. For 10€, you will be allowed to get a new build every month and you will also get a 10€ discount on the game's purchase. For 25€, you'll have a new code every week and a 25€ discount. You can also decide to give 45€ right away, which means you won't be charged when Project CARS is released. More money can be donated, but like I said, most players will probably won't be able to afford it. If you want all the details, you should definitely check the official website.

The Gamersyde Project

Because Slightly Mad Studios' title is such an uncommon project, we decided it should be given some kind of uncommon treatment on our part. You must wonder what we mean by that but it's pretty simple actually. In the months to come, we plan on posting gameplay footage and "homemade" screenshots on a regular basis, along with our updated impressions on the game. No doubt that with Miguel, AbSoLuT_b and I to take care of it, you should have plenty of information. I have just gotten the game myself, so I won't be able to tell you much for now, but what I can say is everything I have seen so far seems very promising, hence my enthusiasm. I will simply start with a few words on my first impressions but I promise you will have more to sink your teeth into very soon. Just wait for Miguel to plug in his G27 and you'll see.

First impressions

Even though it takes a bit of getting used to to play Project CARS with a 360 controller, the sense of speed is great and driving is incredibly pleasant. Steering is a bit sensitive but once you get a hang of it, it's just pure fun. Depending on the car, it is more or less difficult to handle the vehicle, and from what I can tell, it feels realistic enough to keep things interesting in the long run. Graphics wise, the cars look great, each having a very detailed cockpit view, and the tracks are equally impressive thanks to very good lighting effects. We particularly enjoyed driving the Californian coast or the French Riviera, so let's hope there will be more Point A to Point B environments to choose from in the future. Being pre-alpha, the code obviously isn't perfect, but quite honestly, even at this stage, it looks better than most racers out there. Cherry on the cake, sound effects are also praiseworthy and they should drive your neighbors crazy when you're up against 41 opponents (!).

Look like crap in screenshots. Looks nice in motion. How many cars are going to be on offer in this game?

No, unsurprisingly my crap looks like crap, hence the comparission to these screenshots ;)

Well, if you check the website, you'll see what the community is capable of in terms of screenshots. I confess I lack the necessary skills. The thing is the game has no photo mode, so you can't add post effects to make nice bullshots like in GT. ;)

It is certainly not perfect, but it looks good enough for me to find the game pretty. :)

It's a shame really, could actually make them look half decent?

You mean like how GT looks in motion? :D

Enough with the trolling, I'm off to bed. Enjoy the videos at least. ;)

Like I said, most of the blame should be on me. ^^

I think the screens look nice. Sure, they aren't the post processing bonanza you get in GT5, but at least they represent how the game actually looks :P

The racing is totally different then anything else, trust me.

Environment looks sooo real. Love it!

project C.A.R.S is the best looking racer currently, and should be a real treat to drive also. (I'm a mac user, but would/will build a PC just to play this game)

To be able to try it out doesn't require more than signing up on their crowdfunding portal - http://www.wmdportal.com/

Good to see you guys are giving it some coverage. :-)

Notice how the dash parts in the cockpit view all shake realistically!

Do'nt think we've ever seen that level of detail in a racer before

Haha, hilarious comment! Although I expect nothing less from you. Even in these not so glamorous screenshots, it's pretty clear that this is the best looking racer on any platform. The LOD on the cars during gameplay is as good as Forza 4 in photomode and the environments looks great too (Apart from those terrible GT5 trees in some shots).

Finaly roads and not stupid tracks all over again. Great graphics IMO. Also...the best engine sounds Ive heard in racing game so far.

Is Spa or Nürburgring available? Would love to see some vids of them if they are.
Commented on 2012-06-04 14:10:37 In reply to Xoar
Spa is (named Belgian Forest), Nürburgring isn't (yet ?).

KORNdog They just didn't bother including it in their demo footage because it's clearly as boring as it sounds. (10 Hours ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Phaethon360: actually i wasn't. There is a mode other then the "you have been invaded" cat and mouse mode, where you JUST follow someone. (10 Hours ago)
  • Phaethon360
Phaethon360 @digi_matrix: I agree. I like using the environment and hacking other players. Also what Korn was trying to say is "cat & mouse" gameplay. (10 Hours ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @digi_matrix: debatable. One mode looks fun. The other look "different" but ultimately boring. I hear there is a mode where you litterally just follow another play. Exciting stuff. (12 Hours ago)
