Trials Fusion, first "next-gen" title in the now famous Trials series, has been released today. Ubisoft sent us the PS4 version of the game a few days ago, and as a big fan of the series since Trials HD I just had to record a few videos and give you my impressions!
What's new and interesting in this new game compared to the previous ones? The playable ATVs are a nice addition to the series, but their gameplay does not allow as much finesse as the bikes and in the end they seem more like an afterthought in the whole game. The FMX (stunt) mode adds quite a lot of replayability to the levels for the most hardcore fans, but is also not that big a revolution in terms of gameplay, which remains exactly the same as before in the end. That being said, it's not a bad thing at all!
Technically and graphically this first "next-gen" release isn't revolutionary either. The game looks great with much more details than before, and runs in 1080p in the PS4 version tested, but also doesn't manage a perfectly smooth 60 fps all the time. A patch was available when we got the game a few days ago, but we don't know if it was the "day 1" patch that was supposed to fix the framerate issues or not (no patches as of this morning, at least). Even if it remains as it is, the game is still as playable as the ones before in the series, but it would be a bit of a disappointment.
As many expected, Trials fusion is without a doubt an evolution more than a revolution. But then again many people, me included, consider the gameplay of this series as close to perfect as it can be. A much recommended title then, unless of course you are not interested in this type of game or are starting to get tired of the Trials series.
Yikes Nintendo, this is just DUMB! [url] (0 minute ago)
heh, just a week from release. i imagined it was still far off. Timed exclusive VR support for PS4 though. Maybe pick it up late then. (23 minutes ago)
Each area of the plantation you explore has a "boss" family member that stalks you throughout, sort of like Nemesis, and they all have their individual traits. (44 minutes ago)
@Melmoth: Yeah, that appears to be the setting from the demo, but I've read some moderate spoilers, and it's definitely in tune to what the original game was, design and theme wise, with new elements (46 minutes ago)
Although the contradiction in that is that I don't think I'll want to complete it in VR either. Bad for the heart, and the undercrackers. (47 minutes ago)
i have no idea about the setting. from the videos i've seen of the demo it looks like texas chainsaw massacre style setting with rednecks and inbreed. (48 minutes ago)
I won't be playing it on a standard TV. It just feels lame in comparison. If you're interested in how good the genre can get, then you have to experience that to know what I mean. Give it a chance. (49 minutes ago)
