Prey gameplay video

Prey gameplay video

2K Games released a three minute long gameplay trailer, presenting a lot of new stuff actually. The portals looks cool as hell, and the minimize-feature is quite impressive. The overall art isn't in my taste though. The released date for the US is now 10th of July, and you can now see how the Collector's Edition looks.

"That was fucked up"

Couldn't have put it better myself, some of the stuff in this game is totally mindbending but amazingly original.

Hmm don't know, looks very good but mayby a bit to strange for me. :P Anyway if i'm going to get it i'm going for the PC version, still find mouse way better than controller for shooters.

Initially I was looking forward to this game, but with games like GoW, The Darkness, Lost Planet, Too Human, BIA 3, etc etc, it seems there are far better games to look forward to in the action genre.

Looks like a modified Doom 3 mixed with voice acting from Postal 2. (yes i know this game uses Doom Engine)

Notice that when the guy went to that locker or whatever it is, it showed the mouse left click tool-tip type thing on the screen.

PC version, but X360 is said to be par with it and with no framerate issues at all.

www.3drealms.com - Prey Weekly Updates
Up until now we've essentially said that if you can run Doom 3 or Quake 4 decently, you should be able to run Prey. Our requirements are slightly higher than theirs. Of course, you could also get the 360 version (which is running very smoothly -- Venom is doing a kick-ass job).

The collector's edition looks PC-only to me.

Kind of surprising if it is the PC version due to some of the lower resolution textures and the chugging framerate. The person also did not look too great with a mouse.

Anyhow, the gameplay looks sweet. Wall walking, spheroids, portals, shrinking, organic living world, abduction theme pitting you against other warriors. Looks like a lot of fun, and I don't say that about many SP FPS.

:|, I saw the 8 minute gameplay trailer and then I see this and notice no difference anywhere, what is that telling me? I expect another Doom 3 kind of game, sadly.

I did not see any monster closets like Doom 3 :|

YAY! 10th of july. after i get my 360 and just in time for my birthday! Huzza!

I see no reason NOT to get this if you can afford it. GoW, The Darkness, Lost Planet, Too Human, BIA 3, etc etc are all coming out in the autumn, 'holiday 2006' or in 2007 as with the darkness. and none of them, to my knowledge, have the same unique gameplay features as prey.

can tell by the jerky turning and sluggish framerate its the 360 verion.. nice game, but yuk.. PC version for me.

The collector's edition looks PC-only to me.
Official press release:

The Limited Collector's Edition is available for both the Xbox 360™ and PC editions of Prey and includes a special metal packaging upgrade, two die-cast pewter figurines including the lead character Tommy and the alien Hunter, a free download to a Prey soundtrack, and "The Art of Prey" book featuring collected conceptual and development images from the artists behind Prey. In addition, the PC Limited Collector’s Edition will include an upgrade to DVD media from CD-ROM.

That looks amazing! The portals and variable gravity and everything... Wow!

Video from PC version, no overscan compensation for gui and mouse buttons in graphic.

With the horror that was Quake4 I expect this game to run like crap on the 360, despite any lies the developers will spill to convince you otherwise. The Doom3 engine is inflexible and they are stretching it too far. Combined with a lack of interest to optimize it will be a disaster.

Interesting how the same engine when treated with care can be made to run perfectly on the xbox1 but give them something much more powerful and they just toss the x86 codebase right in there without a second thought. The conversion is also outsourced so "Venom" has to work on a fixed budget, whatever they can push out is good enough for 3D Realms.

Well you will be waiting till atleast November for all those games. With the exception of maybe Lost Planet.

Can someone tell me some about the gameplay of Prey? I re-read a preview in GamesTM and all I read was 'innovative' this and 'original' that, but they didn't actually specify actually WHAT was innovative and unique to FPS'.

@ Isomac + Manager:

You seem to have misunderstood me, I know that there'll be a 360 CE as well. What I wanted to express is that the posted CE tin box looks PC-only to me. I suppose the 360 version will at least have the usual 360 logo banderole on the top side.

aphex187 Played a bit of BF1 yesterday, still doesn't hold my attention like it used to but by jingo it looks beautiful!! (47 minutes ago)
  • droezelke
droezelke @Moonwalker: I know hdr makes a difference. However, is it worth 1000+ euro's? (3 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Yea that's sorta like turning up the "digital vibrance" setting in the Nvidia control panel. Without HDR we're just seeing more saturated colors. (8 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts If it was, that would be great as there would be no need to buy a HDR TV to watch HDR content as any SDR screen would be able to show HDR the same as HDR screens. I wish it was like that though. (10 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts Mostly what you can see is a richer color palette due to a wider color gamut and bloom/brightness. Though it's not the same, unfortunately. (10 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts You can see it here in both the "Nano Cell" and "HDR" sections on this LG TV: [url] It's still not the same as watching in person. SDR screens can't show HDR. (10 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts @Moonwalker: Yes, you can see a difference, but only on colors and bloom. It's the same type of thing that TV manufacturers use to describe what HDR is with images. same. (10 Hours ago)
