PC Xbox 360

Venom Games, the "new" developer of the Xbox 360 version of Prey, released these six images (in a strange resolution) from the Xbox 360 version of Prey. They also confirmed that the XBL mode will have an 8 player limit, and that Human Head Studios are still developing the PC version.

Can't wait, but after reading some info on too human for the 360 i'm quite possibly more excited for that game than any other game for the 360.

If they plan to go as far as they said they would in terms of martial arts and gameplay system that will be unlike anything people have ever seen from devil may cry or god of war as they say :) Also there will be no cutscenes in the game so how do they plan on progressing the story along in places where the main character isn't? Word has it we'll be able to take control of other characters to help progress the story possibly some bad guys!! :)

I think I see softshadowing in some of these pics.

Hehehe

Well it's more real then Duke Nukem Forever. Looks like a bad Doom/Qauke copy. It could have been good back in 1996-97 but now it's just tradgic

Looks good but 4:3 and no overscan compensation for the gui does not spell 360, but PC. They should know better than to post PC screens as 360 ones :(

I saw that website the other day while i was looking up the older versions of Prey, very interesting history, so much time was wasted, but at least most of the stuff in the old versions of Prey was brought over and made way better.

I wonder how the portals work on the Doom3 engine tho. I wonder if they build the levels and then portals go to a predetermined location of are they random, and if they just transport your XYZ coordinated to different locations rather than a true portal.

Very interesting stuff, at least they have some innovative gameplay elements in the game. I can't wait for a demo or to try it out.

Tbh, if you're looking for a good FPS game with lots of replayability (meaning good and popular online MP etc) I think you're much better of buying ET:QW, UT2007, and/or GR:AW this year..

And this goes for both Xbox 360 and PC.. ;)

Still out to court on this one. Ther ewas a huge fanfare with last years E2 trailer. I'll have to sample the game first hand before I pass judgement.

If it turns out like the Quake 4 port to XBox3560 (i.e. unoptimized framerate), then I'll definately sit this one out.

The small moons with gravity, wall walking, portals, and a sci-fi back story that allows a lot of aliens in a combat sitations with some clean, thematic graphics. I like. Hopefully it plays well. The 30fps thing is definately a bummer though.

the game looks okay but I'm just sick of the doom3 engine...too damn dark for my tastes. I understand where they want to go with this game but I'm kinda sick of the dark games.

Those screens are most likely PC screens, with the 4:3 aspect ratio. Anyway, the 360 wouldn't be too far off, plus or minus, depending on whoever judge it (PCgamer vs 360gamer). I don't know how well a 10 year old game will hold up to GRAW, BF2MC, F.E.A.R. and GOW. It doesn't look that appealing to me. The Doom3 engine still have many juices in it. Prey is using a modified Doom3 engine that supports DX9c (possibly DX10).

Jesus Christ this looks good. Truely next gen here, this is exactly the kind of thing I've been hoping for. I really hope there's more than 8 player multiplayer, as that's weak, but the rest of the game just looks phenominal.

OH can anybody explain to me WHY Xbox360 games have limited the # of players to 8 or 16? I mean isn't the biggest selling point of the 360 is LIVE? why can't we have more than 32 players? Especially when it requires you to use broadband. MS better do something about it geezus.

GRAW has first person but in classic ghost recon style there is no gun visual when in first person.

But this game does look good although Im not a big fan of the Doom 3 engine.

1: If you have played certain games, like say BF or BF2, with 32 players and above ping becomes a big factor. Games like BF are not as affected because of all the vehicles and the combat is not as twitch/close quarters, but in a CS or Quake style game it could get bad.

2: Bandwidth. Most people have limited upstream bandwidth, so if they are hosting a server on their 360 they cannot do much more than 8-16 players, which means...

3: Servers. MS would need to buy a lot of servers, which cost money, and then geographically place them, etc. The fact is the more people = the more calculations and server lag. A 360 that is already pushing the limits of performance having to calculate and predict 32 objects and all their bullets and then cross reference them with the incoming packets, etc... may be too much.

This is an advantage of the PC where people can buy their own servers (or set them up/colo).

And for the record you would be lucky to play 3 or 4 players with dialup (and it would suck)... heck, some of the slower DSL out there struggles in 16 player games. MS requires broadband to maintain quality, not necessarily to pump up the number of players.

The PC version will be FPS because RS noted PC games cannot stand 3rd person.

That said, if the cross hair acts like a FPS I don't mind the over the shoulder view. It opens up the game quite a bit IMO--just as long as they do not resort to 3rd person play mechanics as the staple.
