Project CARS Nürburgring

Project CARS Nürburgring

A few weeks ago, we posted a few gameplay videos of Project CARS which seemed to impress some people a bit less than previous trailers. Some people in France even used our footage to claim the game's graphics were not as sharp as announced, which of course led some fans to explain that the two tracks we had shown were not the best looking of the bunch, as they were not final - we beg to differ but well... According to them, the famous Nürburgring is much more impressive, so we decided to capture some more 60 fps gameplay footage to show it at different times of day and in different weather conditions. We've also added a 30 fps replay in the rain of Bathurst.
Note: Footage was captured with our Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel (by Fanatec) using an i5 4670K @ 4.0 GHz, 8 Go RAM, Windows 7 64, Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 MSI OC. All options were maxed out except for detailed grass (which is only activated in the first video), AA set on High.

i think i know what's happened which quite a few people have not taken into consideration is that Pcars was in development for last gen consoles which was then suspended and is now just being developed for next gen consoles (and PC), this means they have had to change a lot of the games textures which would have no doubt been low resolution in comparison to say assetto corsa which has solely been developed for the PC so the textures can be a higher resolution.

so far it's looking better with each video but lets not too ahead of our selves as this is still work in progress not a finished game.

So basically you haven't played any racing games since the PS1 era?

(Using pluses and minuses to rate)

Superb ground textures +
sweet car detail +
Nice interior cam +

- - - - - -

lacking HBAO -
lacking full environment detail -
world is static - (tress need some motion.)
Replay cam is bland - (could use some sweet DOF and motion blur.)

Some Tessellation could help out on those hard edges in the world and car geometry detail as well. that's about all i can say for this project, this game can be so much more if they put some next gen finishing touches into it.

the actual game is a far cry from the bullshots you see in forums

yes, thats because PC's have different specs *face-palm* - if you have a crap pc, you will have crap graphics, so thats an obvious given. I had a decent spec PC and took this from the nurb - http://youtu.be/Fh9HI2QxfXs (gets better the later you go into the video). it looked and sounded fantastic when you were playing with a wheel.

thanks gamersyde for putting out all the great videos on this site!

I'm not sure what I'm looking at here, I'm sure its fantastic to play but I think people should give up trying to convince people about it graphics because they're just not there, GunsnSwords is right about whats needed, looks kinda barebones to even lastgen racers despite the hi details, then again this is still in development is it not?
Might look fantastic once it done but at the moment it looks ok for indie title, that continous pop up needs fixing too.

So basically you're saying I have a crap PC. Man I wonder what a good one is. :)

Also, I'm wondering how on earth it could possibly look better (especially on a YT crappy vid) considering all options are maxed out in our videos. :o

id imaging once the game has gone gold there will be mods for it allowing greater draw distance (im guessing the current build has fairly low DD as things like grass and trees suddenly pop in).

an unfinished game and like i said in my first comment the games not even finished yet but some people are acting like it is, and driftwood did you use shadowplay or a different capture method, i personally prefer afterburner.

I used Fraps, which is the best way to capture high fidelity videos. The only problem with it is that it's quite demanding and that it's sometimes hard to keep a steady 60 fps frame rate. Shadow Play is good, but it's not up to our standards (which are pretty high I admit).

I think Gamersyde would need this video to support the game's cause. it's been up for a few days now.

The game has lots of potential, it's got pretty good weather effects. they should add some debris and motion effects to complement it.

They should take cues from Crytek's 2013 demo.

Oh I'm sure if they did allow something like that the game would blow any game away. there's a lot of ambitious creators out there.

No driftwood definitely not, my comment was in response to the comment that I had quoted from icecold1983, as some screens look amazing and some look horrible, but this is purely dependant on the spec of pc.

Linking my Youtube video was to demonstrate how it looks hooning around the nurburgring at night - as an avid gamer, car enthusiast and all that jazz I absolutely love how the game can be immersive

Ok my bad.

The problem is we can't just post videos of every possible track, at every possible time and in every possible weather condition. We don't have the necessary time. :)

People need to understand that the game is under development, that usually, it means we only get to see what the developers want us to see. People can't expect to see a finished product months before it is final.

Oh yeah for sure I understand, i thought I would only add mine as another example.

I think the game is absolutely brilliant - ive had a licence to test for around 1.5 years and enjoyed every minute of it.

The online element really separates this out and can lead to some epic racing - people need to experience it before calling it "not next gen" - it really is in terms of physics and graphics, though as it is WIP the career mode is not there yet.

Cant wait for it to come out on ps4!

It looks great. Sim races do have dull environment I guess like real life not too flashy. Grid3 is going to have a trailer tomorrow so let's see how good that looks. I think dc looks beautiful as well: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uYwd9Mx3tfs

I play Project CARS everyday at 4K and occasionally 2K and there is nothing that currently exists in the racing genre that compares. One of the great things about the PC version is the fact that the graphics are future proof, meaning that as GPUs get more powerful and 4K TVs get cheaper the better the game will continue to look.

There's no need to worry about the physics and handling because as good as they already are, they improve even more with every update.

currently in the UK you can get a 4k monitor for under £500 with a 60hz refresh and 1ms response time it's perfect for gamers.

no its just a situation where the shots people post on forums are taken at resolutions far above what they are playing at, sharpened and massively downsampled in photoshop, and add tons of DOF to hide the not so impressive tracks and art assets

quite how anyone can trust that website is beyond me, my PC set up is using a 280X and i know i can achieve a much higher frame rate using the same catalyst drivers, i just found it bizarre how a GTX 660 and a GTX 760 had higher frame rates than a 290X.

anyway those shots are more than likely from a photo mode of some sort like what GT6 does, anyway the games far from finished so i don't quite know why your making so much fuss over it.

Sure there are SOME that are enhanced, but I can promise i could have taken some shots at 5760x1080 and you would not have noticed if it would have been enhanced or not as I already had alot, if not all, of the enhancements added in game.

My point being is that you will get an array of screengrabs, yes, but look at the game in motion (ie how its meant to be) and you will see it looks absolutely amazing, even on slightly lower graphics.

As said previously too, its future proof as it can adapt to the hardware specifications of the device it is playing on, and the physics are getting better every update they send out.

Personally though, I was happy nearly a year ago when i posted the video of me ragging around a capri on the nurburgring (previous post)
