Bethesda sent us the first of six behind-the-scenes videos about Rage. This one is dedicated to the legacy of id Software and how the game's universe was created. The game will be out in early October.
They're really hyping this as like the next evolution in design of FPSs. Since their era, other games have evolved the genre. Half Life with storytelling. Far Cry and Stalker with open-world emergent gameplay.
The only innovation I see with this game is, non-repeating textures. That's just aesthetics, which is important too (grey and brown FPSs can get boring to play), but this doesn't change the design of the FPS.
The only thing I'm a little down on is the vehicular stuff, but if it turns out more Halo-ish than Half-Lifey with respect to the driving, I'm pretty much sold.

Can't remember very well the vehicular sections in Combat Evolved, I tough the were alright in that time but for the life of me I can't remember about them.
They say there will be like 3 chases that are integrated to the story progression and that the others are optional, I just want the vehicle to get to missions thats all, if its better awesome if not oh well I can always go on foot :P

This is a dev diary for God's sakes, of course they will say they are awesome and that thier game is the best.
But when its been said by John Freaking Genius" Carmack it has some weight IMO.
