Ronaldo cover-boy in PES2008

Konami today released these four images from Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, while also revealing this year's cover boy: the Christiano Ronaldo. Judging by these images, Deco is happy with the decision.

Graphically it's come on a long way since 360 PES6 (although it's still lacking a lot of polish and everything looks flat and lifeless). All we need now is for something to differentiate it from the last 4 identical PES games and get past FIFA again, after the shameless cash-in that the last one was.

renders are worthless, show some gameplay shots.

I think that Fifa 08 looks hundred times better then this mess. But in terms of gameplay i think pes is better.

wow looking great, can't wait to see this game in motion

Oh dear! How can one half of Konami produce and create Metal Gear Solid, yet the other part churn out PES looking like that. I haven't purchased a PES game since PES5, the series simply is not moving on enough. This isn't a patch on what 2KSports can do in a sports game.

I cant help but feel since next gen came around FIFA has managed to creep in and take the throne.. since PES5 ive been playing all the FIFA games on my 360 and I think i always will tbh unless Konami step up their game.

What is Konami doing with all the money they make from us PES fans damn it!

Don't they have any good artists in japan or what?! Ill buy this game just because it playes well and will have more features than they cut out from 2007 version, but honestly, dissapointed on the looks.

When it comes to presentation EAs FIFA is running circles around them.

Oh come on, you can't let the graphics be the main factor when you choose soccer games. The animations in PES have always been 10x more detailed than in Fifa. Sure, Fifa may have a couple of special moves that can make you go "Oooh", but overall it's a mess compared to PES. Just the fact that the players always are out of position on the pitch in Fifa, like if they only are moving when the camera actually is pointed at them.
I agree on the fact that Fifa may be fun to play (for a while), but it doesn't last long, at least not for me. The intial hours are ok, until you realize how the things actually work, and the fact that it won't change to something better. I never get boored with PES, even though it could have had a better manager mode, like Fifa has.
And, well, sure, there's not much happening between the different versions - but it's always those small things that makes the gameplay much better. One year the goalkeepers got much more realistic, some other year they got a lot of new animations in, some other year they did the Master League better - and every year they get more and more licenses. Even though it's always not worth paying 60$ for it, you can always find a little bit cheaper a couple of months later.

Hopefully they'll improve the online mode this year.

"Deco looks happy with the decision..."

Top marks that man!

Looks predictably flat in stills but the beauty of PES is in animation and gameplay. At least we're getting edit modes and replays this year. Plus Veron should be back, which means I'll be half decent again!

1st day purchase for me as always.

Guys don't take me wrong, I love PES, but I havn't yet seen anything in this or 2007 version that made me feel like I am playing a "Next Gen" version of PES. It looked and played ALMOST identical to PS2/Xbox version.

Being a PES fan 100% I know the exuses we always came up with:

"its about gameplay not visuals, its about gameplay"

But I can't use this anymore as an comparison, especialy now that Fifa 07 has improved so much, EA is slowly catching up and Konami needs to do something more than just add 10 more animations and few extra team licenses. PES2007 was a huge disappointment for me with all the lacking features (Edit mode anyone?, Saving replays?).

I have seen the same guys here complaining about visuals of other games here that looked tons better than those screenshots of PES.

wtf??? i hate that winker........wats wrong with terry??? or possibly kaka???
Commented on 2007-07-10 19:22:03
Screenshots look okay to me. I really want to see the game in action soon. That's where the game really shines. And for 90% of the time you see the pitch and the players from a distance.

BTW folks, the irritating dude is called Cristiano not Christiano. ;)

Terry was last year (or something) for PES, Kaká has been on Fifa I think.

I agree, Fifa is gaining, but I still think they're miles behind.

the graphics are horrible. Fifa looks ALOT better... i just wish Fifa was playable...

Unfortunately this game still looks like an upscanned version of the previous Xbox and Playstation 2 games.

Manager, I know I will buy this on the release day, Im just disappointed with the visuals not progressing much in the since old gen versions.

They need to work on their presentation, that includes lighing, 3D, menus. I want this game to look like the best one the moment you put the disk in, not after you played it. :)
Commented on 2007-07-10 21:08:11
Totally agree with Zeuxis' assessment.
PES 6 was remarkably last-gen and the screenshots we're seeing here are only a minor improvement. It's probably a safe bet that the menu's and presentation will be bland as well.
Still a day one purchase for me though. I needs me my footy fix and PES is still the master when it comes to gameplay. FIFA's still got a way to go in that department.

The gameplay is better in Pro yes, but that's no excuse for the lack of great, or even good graphics.

It's just too bad we can't get great graphics and great gameplay in one game.

  • KORNdog
KORNdog He really should have been Drake in movies back when firefly went down the drain. He was a good age and fitness level at that point. I'm interested to see how Tom Holland does in the role. (5 Hours ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog I think Fillion is like a perfect Drake. But he'd need some serious training to do it full justice. Right now he's a bit too out of shape. But personality wise he nails it. (5 Hours ago)

GriftGFX That's because Chris Pratt doesn't really act like anyone but Chris Pratt. I thought his character is P&R was too unbelievable, but nah he's a real person. I wonder who ties his shoes. (6 Hours ago)
