PS3

The demo of Siren: New translation is available since a few hours on the japanese PSN store, and KurowaSan from the NeoGAF forum recorded this nice video, showing a dark and rather frightening game.

I played it around 1 hour ago...I thought it reminded me of Silent Hill a good thing.

However, I hated the heavy grainy look, very annoying.
The graphics was good, but so damn dark.
The melee was cool, and the shooting was good as well, auto-aim when the enemy gets close, can even go into FPS mode.

But the camera controlling was lame.

This isnt a game I would buy because my 2008 list is stacked up with many titles, but I could see a horror fan liking this.

PS. The demo is very short, and I mean very.

The demo was very intense. I was actually screaming as I ran away from that old chick. On my second run through I noticed a steel pipe and used the R1+square combo on her, and my dude did this sweet looking move where he knocks her head through a wall. Just plain awesome.

Those Asian guys totally piss on any American horror type games, they know how to conjure up atmosphere. Now this looks quality and yip defo reminds me of SH (1 of the best horror games ever made!).

Can't w8 thx!

is this a follow up to the forbidden siren games on the PS2? played the first one and it was pretty decent.

Also a huge Silent Hill fan here, never played a Siren game before (mostly because I never owned a Sony console before), but I guess I will have to make a JPN account latter today to check this demo :)

So, is this basically Siren with an American instead of Japanese cast?

Or was Siren in America to start with?

I just played the demo of this game. I'm highly disappointed... I hope the final product is more polished than this demo. I'll have to wait and see which direction this game is going. Too bad because this looked interesting for a start.

No the original Siren was meant to play/feel like your typical Japanese horror movie (like Ringu, Grudge, etc.) - but upon its dreadful european localization they had AWFUL British actors that ruined the game's atmosphere (IMO). This time it looks like its set in America, but key elements should more or less remain the same AFAIK.

Siren is one of those games I was really hyped about on the PS2 and purchased on launch but never really played as the feeling of dread was just too much.

Now I'm hyped about this remake and I will probably pick it up, hopefully I got the BALLZ to finish it this time

You didn't say why. I like to hear criticisms about gameplay. Feel free to vent.

loved it, really huge sense of fear. its like silent hill 1 all over again. only complaints would be

A. camera control - movement feels very archaic thanks to all movement been mapped to the left stick. the game feels like it should control like splinter cell (since its essentially a horror stealth game at its core where avoiding combat is better then looking for a fight) the only camera control outside of the usual view is pretty clunky FPS view.

B. the overall darkness of the game. im all for conveying a sense of dread with dark environments, hell, i've been a fan of silent hill for years. but this is too much, it looks great when your casting dynamic shadows across the environment every which way, but you genuinely cant see shit. the first time i played i almost walked right into the first woman you come across it was so dark.

other then those the game plays great imo. looks good. sounds good. and animation wise is awesome. seeing a screaming jap chick stumble to her knees after shooting her only for her to get right back up in one continous fluid motion is pretty cool. makes them seem far more real. not to mention the diversity in character models. makes a change from zombie model #1 appearing 1,000 times in the first half hour...lol

played it last night, the game is too dark and the camera is a little awkward, and, it's not horrible at all. but what I'm interested is the JP style ghost story and I like that multi-character setting. so I might give it a try in July.

btw, tha graphic is too jaggy which I cannot not accept. and the demo is too short.

Looks automatic, no manual gameplay at all - like you're simply walking down a linier path until the next cutscene takes place...when do you actually get to play?

Only played a small portion of the demo, gonna give it another try later but it was a pleasent surprise as far as I could tell.

Very atmospheric and although it seems very linear, it does bring that sense of tension pretty well. Hope this doesn't end up being a 5 hours SP game or something, and I might pick this one up.

Yupp, asian people really know how to make great horror movies/games. Americans always have a bunch of teenagers on a road trip, trying to survive a crazy maniac in a killing mood.

To those of you talking about camera control, are you talking about the controller's right joystick? If so, I thought that was more for controlling where the character was pointing his flashlight.
