Sonic Unleashed announced

Sega has finally announced Sonic Unleashed from Sonic Team, which for some reason already had images and a trailer online weeks ago. The game will be released on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Wii late this year, and more information, images and a better-quality version of the first trailer with some new footage can be found inside.

The graphics meninds alot Blue Dragon. I hope most part of the game is played on lateral scroll...

Pretty much. :(

Let's hope it's more like Rush than Rivals though.

I'm stunned Sega actually worked on a Next Gen engine.

I take it cooleo didn't play the earlier sonic games? It has never been like that.

"As the sun sets in Sonic Unleashed, a different type of adventure will awaken in Sonic’s newest quest…."

Well its seems theyve listened to the crys of the fans. 2d sonic is the way it was meant to be. Should be interesting to play.

Haha. I was only joking. I love the original sonic games!

You've got to admit though, the more recent incarnations have pretty much been the definition of "the suck". They seem to caught up on the idea of speed to the end of making a lot of the game just holding a direction.

To be fair to this title, it's looking a lot more interesting than the last few.

You're right on the money. Rush and Rivals both succumb to the idea of ALWAYS RUNNING, which seems to be what people's expectations on sonic has morphed into.

The fact of the matter is that the early Sonic games had plenty of pretty methodical platforming elements to break up the insanely speedy sections, and that made them soooo much better paced than a lot of the later 2D Sonics (which people obviously haven't played).

That said, I thought Rush did a really good job of incorporating new mechanics to go with the speed, making "fighting" and tricks into something rewarding and intuitive. In fact, Hideki Naganuma's sountrack wasn't the only thing that made Rush feel a lot like a Jet Set Radio game.

Hopefully this keeps the same things in mind and is more akin to Rush than any of the other recent 2D Sonics.

Oh and on a side note, if the PS3 or Wii version has any Secret Rings like features in them I am SO there.

Reminds me of pandemonium. Hopefully its better than sonic fully 3d games. Which are crap. I do like the rush games but then I dont think there is enough platforming elements.

Like in the original sonic you could sort of go up and down and collect rings and find secret stages. Where in rush its just sort of run for it and get to the end.

Wow, did they just upped the speed x10? It looks like they added a sprint feature. i loved the old sonic games when I was a kid too, but i didn't think the focus was always going so fast... Or have i been playing it wrong?

Anyway, this does look ALOT more promising than the previous crap games Sega had been selling...

Hopefully, the PS3 version mimics the Wii controls. The Sixaxis can handle standard left and right tilts no problem.
Commented on 2008-04-04 09:21:04
lets hope the ps3 donr use the tilt action and uses normal controls or at least hope there is an option not to use the sixaxis as i feel that ruines games
