The Sonic gameplay looks like fun... but the Werehog looks bad.
The "Were" in Werewolf refers to the human portion, yet, all the hog has is wolf attributes (aside from the usual human traits in all sonic characters); so it should be "Wolfhog" or something.
That notwithstanding, I really want to play it!
Looks like a crazy ride.
As it stands it's not so much principle that has me wanting Sonic in the Werehog bit, as it is the fact that Sonic '06 had good combat (White Acropolis showed this off the best) and this flailing about looks like a step down.
I feel like no matter what the "non sonic" gameplay looks like people will say it looks like crap out of principle. Or that it's "slow and boring" it could be mario galaxy with a wolf and people would say it's "slow and boring in comparison" To me, the werehog gameplay looks like fun, and the sonic gameplay looks amazing.
They're critisised so badly for a very good reason. The Sonic gameplay here looks exactly like Sonic Rush, which is not a good thing. There's no direction and barley even any gameplay involved, it's simply moving as fast as you can in one direction, like a rollercoaster. It looks pretty, but there's no substance to it. The original Sonic games were good because they were NOT about speed, they had actual platform sections, not simply holding right until you finish the level.
The werehog sections admittly don't look bad, it slows the game down to a more platform/action orientated style that the game needs to have, but why do we need a silly werehog mechanic to do this? It's very jarring, I don't see the two styles of gameplay mixing at all, and unlike games like Zelda, it doesn't fit in at all.
The game does deserve some praise for fixing some of the problems the more recent games have had, but they still don't seem to know what the underlying problem is or how to fix it. I also feel I should remind you that Sonic 2006 seemed like it would also fix many of the problems, and until very close to release, appeared to be a very good looking game, that many fans pinned hope of Sonic's redemption on.
You're simply repeating an endless cycle.

Let me guess, a lot of 'run fast and then stupid fall\bump' awaits us again :'(
