LucasArts has just announced Star Wars 1313, a new dark and mature third-person adventure game. Set in Level 1313, a dark subterranean metropolis from the planet Coruscant. Players will take on the role of a lethal bounty hunter in this game that features exotic weaponry and gadgets, cover-based combat, platforming and "seamless playable cinematic game play". No shipdate yet, nor platoforms announced but we'll know more with its formal debut at E3.
Press release:
LUCASARTS DROPS GAMERS INTO THE CRIMINAL UNDERWORLD WITH NEW MATURE THEMED VIDEOGAME FRANCHISE, STAR WARS 1313 ™
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif – May 31, 2012 – LucasArts, a Lucasfilm Ltd. company, announced today a new internally developed videogame franchise, Star Wars 1313 ™. The game will make its formal debut at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles June 5-7. As players take control of a lethal bounty hunter in a never-before-seen dark and mature world, Star Wars 1313 introduces an integrated development approach by bringing together great artists across the Lucasfilm organization, including LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. and Skywalker Sound. A third person cinematic action adventure game, Star Wars 1313 will bring to life the Coruscant underworld, the most dangerous place in the Star Wars™ galaxy.
Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world.
“We’re excited to share one of the projects LucasArts has been hard at work developing,” said Paul Meegan, President, LucasArts. “Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we’ve always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself.”
More details about Star Wars 1313 will surface in the coming months. Visit www.StarWars1313.com for the latest updates.
I hope this gonna be cool. To be honest, I didnt like Force Unleashed much. Dont know why. Graphics were great, music too....it played nicely, but still...I missed something. For me, the best Star Wars game of all times is the Dark Forces. Even today, I still play it and its a blast. I know, that we are overloaded by FPS games, but this would be great in new graphics and new story. Long, challenging gameplay, great level designs and also a lot of "puzzles" to solve. Hope this is gonna be something similar in 3rd person.
Im just a little worried about one thing. Its called 1313. By that subterranean metropolis from the planet Coruscant, as they say. Does it mean, that whole game will be in this metropolis and we are not gonna see other environments? I hope not.
It looks like this game could lead up to the live-action series since the premise for that is also about bounty hunters and the criminal underworld. Also the guy in the pic could be Boba Fett without his helmet on. Maybe he ends up disfigured somehow and that's why he never took his helmet off in Eps 4-6?
This game does look promising, and I'm looking forward to it. From the description it really sounds like a spiritual successor to Star Wars Bounty Hunter, which I really enjoyed.
But they haven't made Star Wars Battlefront III yet, so they are fucking idiots. We got two mediocre God of war style games (force unleashed I & II) that tried to tie in so much with the original trilogy and had such a shit story it was cringeworthy (For example, 'starkiller' was vaders apprentice that ran away and started the rebellion, and after he died in the first game, the second game brought him back as a clone - perhaps the weakest plot device ever, especially since in the second movie at the water planet the alien goes out of it's way to mention that force users can't be cloned, and yet it's those exact same aliens that clone 'starkiller' ).
Seriously, AC3 can have over a thousand enemies on screen at once, imagine a Battlefront game like that! Imagine a more improved 'Galactic Conflict' mode from the first two, that would include more RTS style elements! Hell, imagine increased customisation from the psp games, maybe you could make your own faction and take it online to fight over the goddamned galaxy.
Lucasarts, make that game and I swear you'll get a concussion from the amount of money thrown at you.
Seeing as we're being wishful; I wouldn't mind if a developer had a go at making a new Jedi Knight game. JD2 was one of my first forays into FPSs and this may be my rose tinted glasses at work, but I remember how atmospheric the game could be at times.

@Melmoth: well, with games like TLOU making more cash than Man of Steel in it's opening weekend, I'd say there's a fair chance they'll stay relevant. (12 minutes ago)

DRM, 24 online checks make a system "truely next gen"? Who the fuck writes this bollocks? (13 minutes ago)

The battle the next 5-10 years isn't which console will "win", but if the console marked as a whole can stay relevant, which is a much bigger issue than fighting over logos and brands. (23 minutes ago)

Already a step towards a good Star Wars game for not focusing on stupid Jedis or reliving movie fanservice moments.
