The First 10 Minutes: F.E.A.R. 3

One can't say that F.E.A.R. 3 was really anticipated by players this month but it was released this week and those interested in the game will be happy to see it is given the usual Gamersyde treatment. You will find the introduction of the game along with the first 10 minutes inside. More to come a bit later today. We are showing you the 1080p PC version which oddly runs at 30 fps, enjoy!

The action and shooting in this game is pretty good and most of all the controls on PC don't have any of that mouse lag or acceleration.

But the game overall just isn't scary as the first game, mostly because there are a lack of apparitions.

I loved the original, second felt abit naff but this one so far feels alot like the original F.E.A.R.

I was quite disappointed in this game.

On the one hand, the gameplay is the best in the series. I actually enjoyed the new cover mechanic and the controls just seemed very smooth.

But the story and scares just weren't there for me. The entire story felt rushed and is really just there to get you from point A to point B. It's easily the least scary game in the series.

Loved the first 2 but everything about this one puts me off it. Although I really want to try the ****ing run mode, nothing entirely original exactly but can't say I can think of a game with a mode like it. I would actually just buy the game mode separately if the opportunity arose.

Maybe you are having the same problem as most pc-users have. There seems to be a bug in the game that is actually a feature in the console version. For consoles they use a texture blending technique (or however you want to call it) where a motion blur textured is blended with a normal texture to make it look smooth at 30 fps (the framerate of the console version). The issue with the pc-version is that occasionally the game stops rendering all unique frames. Instead it will render a frame normally, with motion blur, then render the same frame without motion blur. It makes for an extremely evident jerkiness. See this topic where the problem is explained:

I don't mind this game at all and in fact quite enjoy it. Granted it's not as scary as before.

its not scary at all, they should have gave atleast 2 more being hunted missions..rather than killing mechs... but still enjoyed this game

Only got as far as the mission after you hijack the plane so far, so annoyed they've made it less scary! Sure, the Killzone-style cover system is great, but that's not what I liked about Fear, I liked it because it made you shart yourself every 10 minutes :(

That is why you don't see the stuttering. If you would go beyond 30 fps, you'll start to see it and it will increase with higher framerates.

Now here is a game that I did not think I was going to enjoy at all outside of the F***ing Run mode in multiplayer, that I am finding to be all kinds of win.

No it is not scary, as some have already pointed out. And to be honest, after Project Origin, I was not expecting any games in the series to be scary any longer, as Project Origin was not scary. But what Fear 3 is, is a solid shooter, with above average graphics, and surprisingly well laid out levels and gameplay, and plenty of modes to keep you coming back. Co-op mode is a complete blast, and they copied that PEC thing from the Tom Clancy games, and a lobby system reminiscent of, but not exactly like, Halo.

And to think, just a few weeks back, I had absolutely ZERO interest in this game AT ALL.

I've played the entire series, and was even looking forward to part 3 until I heard that Day 1, not Monolith was making part 3. I think the real shame is, Day 1 has managed to do as good a job, or better, than Monolith would have done.

The game just feels nice, and is a lot of fun to play, whether it is single, multi, or co-op. Even with my excitement about F***ing Run, I was going to skip over this game until I could pick it up used much later in the year (I mean, who pays full price on a game for one mode). But I wound up in a position where I could get it free from OnLive, so I said what the heck and I would at the very least play the demo and make an educated decision of whether to spend the free coupon code on Fear 3 or not. By the end of the demo, I was so enamored I took the plunge, and am very happy that I did. From where I am standing, Fear 3 is definitely the first surprise hit of the summer. I hope it does well in sales, as it deserves it.

And to think, this is the first game from Day 1 Studios since they made MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, that not only is worthwhile playing, but is a helluva lot of fun to play as well. If only Day 1 could make more games this fun, they'd have long ago made a name for themselves.

what its allready out? damm missed that. wow here are people who say the first f.e.a.r. is scary lol. the first one was not scary at all. those people should never play Silent Hill or Dead Space or they get a heartattack haha lol. the second one and this one are way scaryer because it atleast have monsters or mutant humans or wathever.

why does this game look worse than FEAR 1? damn FEAR 1 was a great looking especially with all the effects turned on and firing the gun was so satisfying

sparks everywhere!!

About the game

What's up?
  • crookedmind
crookedmind ... I can't even think of what they want. Maybe expecting CoH or AoE or even a Starcraft like game, but it's not even trying to be a strategy game like that. (5 Hours ago)
  • crookedmind
crookedmind @rayy: I think so. If I hit on something later in the game that I haven't gotten to yet I'll let you know, but so far I don't see any control flaws. (5 Hours ago)
  • crookedmind
crookedmind If you took the sword work and handling from Witcher and put it in Skyrim, you have the ultimate game in that genre. Mods made Skyrim in my opinion; vanilla was stunted outside of stealth backstabbery (5 Hours ago)
  • MikeManiac61
MikeManiac61 @GriftGFX: Both games in my eyes had spotty combat. I played W3 for its story and life. As for Skyrim, the vanilla version of the game felt bland without the mods. (7 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX And I think the gameplay that is there is pretty janky and pretty shallow. (7 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I get that you think Skyrim is crap, but The Witcher 3 aint "a good version of Skyrim" because they have totally different goals. TW3 doesn't even attempt half the systems that Skyrim does. (7 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @KORNdog: Nah, that's *really* not all there is to it. You're comparing a broken apple with a poorly designed orange. (8 Hours ago)
