The First 10 Minutes: SoulCalibur IV

The First 10 Minutes: SoulCalibur IV

Here's a late one - SoulCalibur IV was released last month on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and here are finally the First 10 Minutes of the game. Since we've been busy with GC and everything, I haven't been able to play much - but I've enjoyed what I've played so far. The (huge) video shows fights where I change between two characters in Hard mode, and I guess it's obvious that the first character makes it easy to push out people from the stage.

Cry.

But on another note: Soul Calibur IV does indeed own. The virtual dollhouse stuff is surprisingly addictive, and I expected to hate it--but customization aside--there's a pretty damn awesome fighter in there too.

I know, I played the demo and I love it just as I loved the previous ones...

It's just that I don't pay 60 bucks for a beat em up ever again.
Story mode is also disappointing. Its great but compared to those from e.g. Soul Calibur 2, its a huge step back!

I was pleasantly suprised by soul calibur 4, the earlier games where pretty and very flashy but kind of shallow compared to other fighters. But this is a nice step in the right direction, it's still a bit more button mash friendly than other fighters but no where near as bad as before.

This is probably my most hated game, but I enjoy it anyway xD

I've banned myself from online, though. I really do suck.

If you have problems winning online pick Sophitia or Mitsurugi, then everything will be awwwwwriiiight.

Unless ya know.. you play someone who is actually good. Not that Sophi and Mitsu aren't both fine, fine character choices, but they're nothing a player at the same skill level can't handle with several other characters.

Cassy > Sophi.

I don't think the solo presentation in any Soul Calibur game is particularly thrilling. This one will keep you busy for quite a good chunk of time if you plan on getting all the honors (achievements) and unlocking all of the gear. What really delivers here is the online mode. It's the best online mode, but it's very playable.. in my experience much more so than DOA4 online.

Well yes, if you're skilled you can take on anything, but online specifically, Sophie and Mitsu hands down the most broken. Sophie's a monster offline too. I know someone at Namco is obsessed with her the same way Itagaki was obsessed with Kasumi.

But in DoA4, Ayane and Hayabusa were the most taken fighters online...

About the game

What's up?
  • Tiz
Tiz @KORNdog: I mean, I'm only going to grind a game if I enjoy the gameplay. I'd rather grind for hours then submit anything beyond the RRP even if it gets me the exact item I wanted. (9 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog it's either grind for litterally tens of hours....or...pay for currency which buys loot boxes that even then might not even give you the thing you want. it's BS, no justification for it. (13 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog there are ways to lessen the sting of a loot box, but nothing will beat actually buying the things you actually want directly. and that's not an option in these games. (14 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz ...bought some skins from last year (in-game currency and cheaper) and played a different game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (17 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog imagine a supermarket working that way. you want a turkey sandwich, but sorry, not today, you're getting cheese, fucking deal with it. (17 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @Tiz: the problem with loot boxes is that whether you're paying with money or time (the points accrued by grinding for hours and hours) the odds of you walking away with what you want are slim. (18 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz I burned out before the event and really wanted the event-specific skins but didn't have enough coins, so I did the only thing I could do... (23 minutes ago)
