The First 10 Minutes: UT3

The First 10 Minutes: UT3

Midway and Epic Games have completed their work on Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox 360, and we're glad to have the game before its release. It will hit the streets in Europe and the US next week, so enjoy the first mission in the singleplayer campaign.

Awesome footage.

It's impressive how EPIC managed to get rid of the texture pop up in the Xbox 360 version. Something that even the PS3, with a game installation couldn't handle as well.

This is probably, overall, the best looking game in any console right now. Maybe matched by MGS4, but the butter smooth framerate gives this one the edge in my opinion.

360 version looks ok here, did they ever manage to strike a deal with Microsoft for custom content though? It's such a big part of the series it would be a shame to miss out on such a huge feature of the PC/PS3 versions.

Played it today and wasn't impressed, actually I was bored to death and got back playing BF:BC again. The graphics may be good but I don't like the art at all, the gameplay seems dated as well...

got this coming to me tomorrow via online rental service lovefilm. already own the, imo, superior ps3 version (unreal without mods isnt great) but getting this for points and co-op, even if the campaign is shit and shallow.

btw. is the game split screen online?

Don't judge the game by this footage, this game is SOOO much better online. Great stuff here though. gotta admit I'm a sucker for SP, even if it isn't particularly deep or anything xD

How do you know PS3 version is superior if you haven't seen the 360 version yet?

Hello gamersyde.com,
I was wondering if we could create a comparative between ut3 on ps3/360?

Dated gameplay. Couldn't have said it better myself. Gears and other titles brought so much to the table, I just can't go back to old-school UT.

What? The ps3 version had pop-ins even with installation ?

Indeed. You can check it out in the Xbox 360 review of this game at Eurogamer. They also mention it.

It could also be because they had almost 6 extra months to polish the game. It really doesn't look any different than the PS3 version to me.

i dont get why all this user created content is such a deal breaker for some people why cant you just play whats been shipped with the games... besides theyre prolly gonna release some new content soon anyways.

and charge you for it, and that is the answer to your question, what the PC/ps3 has is an infinate pool of maps and skins and mods, all for free. the 360 is limited before you ever buy it.

i mean, i dunno about anyone else, but playing the destructable lego map as samus, killing snake, master chief, marcus fenix and cloud is what makes the game fun

have they added motion blur? looks smoother when you turn quickly =)

btw is it just me noticing the weird shadows in all unreal engine 3 game? its visible in some areas
Commented on 2008-07-04 03:19:31
Im playing this now, mate at gamestation got me a copy early :D

It certainly runs smoother than the ps3 version. But the unreal engine has always had problems with cell so its not suprising really. I hope some of the more popular mods come to the 360 because that is one major flaw in the 360 version.

Having said that I think UT3 is at home on the 360. The controller is much better than the ps3 one for FPS, the framerate never drops, texture popin is only present on level load and its on live where all my friends are.

I have both the 360 and PS3 versions of UTIII and both have texture pop in issues. The 360 versions take slightly longer to load the textures at the start of the level where it's most noticeable but I've seen several instances of texture pop in while playing the game too. In that respect it's exactly the same as the PS3 version, only the 360's visuals are ever so slightly nicer and the game seems to run better. Also the 360 version supports 17 player matches on and offline, one more than the PS3 version. Apart from the lack of Character Customisation and user-mods, made up for slightly by the addition of new maps and characters, it's the same excellent game.

About the game

What's up?
  • Tinks
Tinks yeah I haven't enjoyed it much at all tbh (20 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX If people were looking for a fresh experience it wouldn't be TitanFall 2. That's their whole problem. I don't think TitanFall 2 would have been "huge" in the Spring. (36 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz I still don't get why people have a problem with cosmetic loot boxes. (38 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts released alongside BF and CoD games. Though even then I would still save it for a year without a new BF, so it would only go against CoD. (50 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts They forgot TF1 didn't make a big splash after launch, but if TF2 was released like I said, it would most likely been a huge hit and then the franchise would have been known enough for a TF3 to be (51 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts had already played BF1 and CoD:IW/MW for hundreds of hours and were looking for a new fresh experience. Really, really horrible decision to launch it alongside BF1 and CoD, plus in the busiest period. (52 minutes ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts It might have to do with that momentum I mentioned earlier. When I think of TF2, I can't even imagine how sussceful it would be if launched in March, April or May. Would also get all the players who (54 minutes ago)
