The Last Remnant gets officially announced

Xbox 360 PS3

At todays Square-Enix conference in Japan, brand new RPG franchise named The Last Remnant got announced for Playstation 3 and Xbox360. Game will be powered by UE3 and released simuntaneously in Japan and US sometime next year. More details to follow later on.

Looks secent graphically, not as good as Lost Odyssey or FFXIII, but then they're exclusives so no surprise they look better. Simultaneous release means I'll be picking up the US version most likely through import. If I get it that is, it could be crap.

That huge sword is cool though.

Look at the gameplay screen. That looks to be the polar opposite of turn based. It looks like Dynasty Warriors.

"Action" and "Enemy B" suggests it's turnbased alright, or at least semi-turn based like something like Grandia or FF12.

If its turn based, awesome! i love turn based games.. though ff12 used a mixture of turn based and real time, which rocked too.

It's going to be turn based, they already stated that. But with more action, they say.

Don't frickin' complain that almost every game from Square Enix is turn based, they're just good at making those kind of games imho. And I'm not the only one on earth who thinks about it that way.

It may not look super-ultra next gen, but it does look good already. I'm getting it.

-- I think how this kind of works. > You just walk around and see the enemies like in FFXII, but when you encounter one, your screen locks with that enemy, and you're having a small turnbased fight. When he's dead, you walk up to the next enemy. I think it works like that. And of course, you need to keep the morale high. (ugh, I hate it when you need to keep a useless meter above a certain level)

Well if you have a ps3..region free baby!

So import that us copy and play straight away!

Who knows, some xbox360 games are region free, maybe this one too..

But being squarenix, they would want this to be a huge JRPG game, along with grandia, ff, star ocean..so it will definently come to europe!

Look a tiny bit generic... Can't help but wished it looked more like the concept art, a mature cell-shading style would of made this game stand out hell'a'lot more. Still it's SE so legions of fanboys/girls will ensure it's a success no matter how crud it is.

Actions like "slash" and "power break" already suggest what kind of gameplay it'll be. Looks awesome.

i wish a new RPG would use the combat system found in vagrant story. or i just wish a sequel or re-make of vagrant story would appear. its practually the only RPG i really liked, the setting, art style, combat. story. far better then the likes of FF etc. imo anyway.

Gameplay as well as customizations are key to many gamers now. I love JRPGs but I want to be able to personalize the look of the character, his appearence, his armor and his weapons.

I can't imagine who left that giant sword behind that's resting in the backround, but when he comes back looking for it the citizens in that town better be somewhere else! lol

So Square announced it's first game not bound to PS3, well then what gamespot once said that FFXIII may come to Xbox 360 as well then, guess they still debate with sony about that one ^^.

Good news in any event, plus the screens looks good.

EDIT: OK found out some more information about the game.

NO platform have been announced.
However this have been announced

"The Last Remnant will hit retail store shelves sometime next year. Square Enix is aiming for a simultaneous release in various markets."
