The Old Republic : The Hammer Battle Station

Bioware has put online a new preview of "Bringing Down the Hammer", just one of the many flashpoints in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

With the NDA lifted I've been trying to track down an unbiased review of the beta. I don't want to read what SW fans think because they're the most judgment impaired group when it comes to TOR.

The reviews I've read so far seem to reveal that it was a little boring and followed the WOW formula too closely. That's not surprising to hear, the WOW formula works so it's natural Bioware would mimic it's mechanics. But if it's too much like WOW why would MMO gamers want to play something they may already own?

setting is everything. why do people buy call of duty over and over again when it is basically the same game but improved? most rpg fans own Oblivion but they all bought Skyrim as well. I know Skyrim is a big leap from Oblivion itself, but its not a huge leap from Fallout 3. my point is, you're always buying the same game you played 3 years ago but with some gimmick or graphical enhancement added to it, just MMO's are more noticeable because any MMO worth mentioning only comes out every so often compared to other genres that have a big hit that comes out every couple of months.

you're always going to get a biased review from an MMO,and the review may not always be reliable, as they are huge games that cant entirely be covered properly in a 2 page opinion that someone wrote because the reviewer is either:
A. Getting paid to write the review so may not entirely care for the game
B. Really passionate about the game
or C. Played it out of curiosity and was asked their opinion

you will always get a very different response from all three, and they are never reliable on their own. basically it all boils down to is personal preference (like thesnake mentioned it is a star wars MMO, enough said there) and what the majority think of the game. ignore written reviews, I decided my MMO's on metacritic score and my hype for the game.

All of your examples are games that are sequels to games from the same developers. This is not World of Warcraft 2. People expected something different.

About the game

What's up?
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker I checked again, their last broadcast is about 32 minutes and is about the Keep. The one after is from oct 20. (2 Hours ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker @Sdarts: It's going to be the X1 version for me. Hopefully we get to zoom in on characters too. Skyrim and Fallout 3 have that, you can zoom in/out and keep the cam there. (2 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts DICE helped them a lot with the Frostbite 3 engine and they were able to push the visuals beyond BF4 in some aspects, like the water effects. And it really shows. Too much excited to wait till Nov 18. (2 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts The camera automatically zooms out when entering combat and zooms in after, but you can change the FOV with the mouse wheel. The visuals look amazing on PC, much more than on PS4 and XBO. (3 Hours ago)
  • Sdarts
Sdarts @Moonwalker: To access the archived livestream videos, click on BioWare and then on Past Transmissions. Today they showed a new region and a new story quest (but very early, so almost no spoilers). (3 Hours ago)
  • Sath
Sath Main Theme from Lords of the Fallen [url] sounds great to me, kind of getting that Witcher style vibe. (5 Hours ago)
  • Moonwalker
Moonwalker I watched the X1 stream again, parts of it, i really hope so much that on console we can zoom on the character and lock it too, it totally kills immersion when camera is so far away. (6 Hours ago)
