Tony Hawk's Proving Ground video

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground video

Activision releases a gameplay montage of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. Doesn't look bad at all, but the game feels a bit tame compared to SKATE.

Wow, that's just miserable. There aren't even any ollie-animations. The skater just flys into the air like Super Mario on a hoverboard or turtle shell. And the tricks are all flipped way after the so to say ollie.
I don't want to say that Activision is trying to copy the realism from skate.. But why don't they show real gameplay like grinding on wires high above the city or doing stupid unrealistic combos? You can only see more or less realistic stuff from an low camera angle.

i think skating games are the perfect example of a game that would be great with 60 FPS motion captured movement with lots of work on animation and graphics.

but after watching this it feels like after 9 games they are all depressed and just cant be bothered anymore, if i were them i would make a differant game now 9 is more then enough, move on!!!!

just looks like a lazy game to me

SKATE will own this in my opinion. Im so pumped for it, I'll rent Tony Hawk though.

Lol Tony What? SKATE is looking much better. After watching the two videos there is much more time put into the animations of SKATE. Like Wipf said there isn't even any ollie animations which is kind of weak.

The whole THPS thing just lost it after...part one i guess. Just doing these crazy 60-trick combos and silly missions in game after game after game. Collecting some crap along the levels...no, i have no hopes for this what so ever. The movie looked better than i would have thought though.

THPS just needs to change the gameplay mechanics. Skate is offering a fresh experiene and a fun and challengin way to do tricks. Tony Hawks 100 trick combos is getting old.

Looks cool enough, but I think Skate may offer a bit more flavor with it's 'real' theme...

hmm worst trailer ever.

Well, I always dreamed of doing ollie after ollie in a ghost town.

I actually like the crazy combo part of THPS.... but lately it feels like they try to hard to get closer to realism and that just puts them in the middle of whats possible to do on a skateboard and whats fun to do in a game.

I will probably buy SKATE for the simulation part of it if the controlls arnt to freaky and impossible (to be decided august 15th) but I will definently not buy this new THPS, the series lost its touch.... well ages ago.

Hmmmm like wipf360 said, the lack of ollieanimations is kind of disturbing now that you mention it......haven't thought about that before.....

i agree completely, especially with the no ollie animation, thats just lame! it looks like they are gonna have some stiff competition with skate. i just am not too sure about the moves in skate. but it might be a note to tony haw to step it up and stop just re-doing the same stuff with different levels. tony hawk is getting very repetitive and kinda boring to play.

skating games have had their day imo, whether its tony hawks or skate. its old news, it may have been popular back in the psone/early ps2 days, but now it only appeals to the guys trapped in the 90's. the should make a new game altogether, hell even a GUN sequel would be better then this.

Tony Hawk games are dead. Let's share a moment of silence for the dearly departed... You guys freaked out due to comp. and tried to create something you couldnt handle. It's over...
