Capcom released this trailer of Lost Planet Colonies, presenting the new multiplayer mode Akrid Egg Battle very thoroughly. It seems like "Capture the flag with eggs" could be another way of describing it, but it's nice to see that they can give the online community something more to play (for a "small" fee). The game just went gold and will be shipped at the 27th of May.
Capcom press release:
LOST PLANET: EXTREME CONDITION COLONIES EDITIONTM HAS GONE GOLD
LOST PLANET GOES EXTREME IN DELUXE VERSION COMING TO PC AND XBOX 360
SAN MATEO, Calif. — May 14, 2008 — Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, announced today that Lost Planet™: Extreme Condition COLONIES EDITION has gone gold. Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION will be available for the Xbox 360® video game entertainment system from Microsoft, as well as Windows-based PCs that support Games for Windows – LIVE®. The suggested retail price is $29.99. Capcom plans to ship Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION on May 27, 2008.
This is one of the most robust updates to a Platinum title ever! Capcom has gone above and beyond to bring the epic Lost Planet experience to an expanded audience. Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION provides the compelling single player experience found in the original Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, with the addition of three new modes. In Score Attack, all enemies have points assigned to them and the score awarded will change depending on how they are defeated, with skilled marksmen being rewarded. For those who thrive on a challenge, Trial Battle Mode delivers the goods, pitting players against all of the game’s bosses, one after another. Players of both Score Attack and Trial Battle modes will be able to compare their skills and compete for bragging rights via the online ranking system. Finally, for fans that want to take their skills to a whole new level, the new Off Limit Mode will allow players to take on Lost Planet’s harsh environments and enemies with over-the-top, super-charged weapons and a powered-up grappling hook.
Fans of multiplayer action will not be disappointed as Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION allows them to enjoy 4 new maps, 5 new playable characters, 10 new weapons and 7 new multiplayer modes. Players become poachers as they attempt to steal opponents’ alien Akrid eggs in a number of individual and team play modes, while the addition of VS Annihilator Mode assigns one robotic Vital Suit to each team, which must be defended at all cost. Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION also includes the feature that Lost Planet fans across the globe have been clamoring for – the ability to play as a gigantic marauding Akrid. Revel in the chance to turn the tables on the Snow Pirates as you assume the role of one of E.D.N. III’s indigenous creatures in Akrid Hunting mode.
All of these modes can be played across a total of 20 diverse maps, including a number of brand-new multiplayer arenas set in areas such as the confines of an ancient coliseum or the broad expanse of desert. For the first time, Xbox 360 owners will be able to join up with or play against Windows-based PC gamers, thanks to Lost Planet COLONIES EDITION’s cross-platform compatibility.

Posted by ApolloCreed Do people still play Lost Planets online? I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just curious if the community is still going strong...
On 360? Last two times I checked there were ZERO people playing it. I dunno about the PC version (does that require games for windows?)
I thought the MP was pretty cool, and it always played pretty well, but noone plays it. One big thing that Capcom killed the community with was releasing those 3 map packs you originally had to pay for (which are all now free for download).
So not only are people not going to buy this game for MP because they know the MP is already dead, but people will additionally not buy this for MP because it further shatters the already completely pureed community into individual neutrons, electrons, and protons.
[edit : To clarify, you can't play Lost Planet with people with this edition. Basically they're two separate games.]
If this goes up on Steam i'm all over it. The original's up so hopefully they're smart enough to whack this one up there too. At $29.99 thats about £15, more than worth it.

Well actually there are still people, just NO ONE plays player matches, kinda scary. Its just. empty there. Ranked matches are mostly full on weekends.
Anyways, I have a question. My lost planet disk cracked a while ago, and I was wondering if I got lost planet colonies, would I still be the same level I was in the original lost planet? And will I be able to play with people who only have the original?

I played a lot the early demo of the previous games and somehow that had the effect of me badly wanting to play the game... until i got tired of it and not wanting the game anymore. The demo came way too soon imo.
It could be the occasion if it indeed boasts the whole 1st ep single player content.
About prices of games, in france actually games are between 60 and 70 euros (93 - 109 USD) except games with accessories which come at higher prices (Rock Band is planned to be $372). It feels like we are back at SNES days... and leaning toward NeoGeo Prices
Just tried again last night, there were some people playing, probably about ~100-200, only in ranked matches. There isn't too much variety in server settings and maps, of course you can set up your own, but people are playing only 4-7 of the maps, and many servers pick rifles as a start weapon and very little FFA playing being done.
What I heard (as I mentioned before) LPC players won't be able to play online with owners of the original LP.

You cant take a look of the maps or check out some cool spots. You have to go online.
Otherwise LP is a great game and it was my GOTY.
