Trailer of Prizefighter

Trailer of Prizefighter

2K Games has released the first trailer of Don King Presents: Prizefighter, to be released on Xbox 360 in June and on Wii & DS this fall. The game is developed Venom Games, who also did the Rocky games on last generation consoles. They talk much about the feature-filled career mode, and the graphics seem to at least be on par with Fight Night 3 so it all looks quite promising.

Except this doesnt seem to have what made FNR3 so great; technology-pushing vision.

I didnt see funky ragdolls, flapping jawbones or collapsing gloves. All I see is an arcade fighter trying desperately to look like the king of boxing games.

I could be wrong, but at a glance it doesnt seem equal and definitely not better than FNR3, so has to be inferior.

Considering FNR3 did almost everything right and more, yet didnt succeed financially, 2K is not going to put loads of money into this to push their developer ego, just enough to fool you into buying. The lack of a PS3 version underlines this theory because the PS3 version would eat up a huge chunk of the budget (possibly double the current budget).

Apparently the Wii version might use the WiiFit balance board.

Its a bold statement but it does make a huge amount of sense.. Only time will tell really.. FNR3 is still the best boxing game out and its still in my 360 at the moment, no other game other than Gears has brought so much playing with friends.. I just want FNR4 to be announced, this time with Floyd Mayweather lol :)

Had high hopes for this, but reading the preview recently has put me right off, not only due to lack of analogue control, but more specifically the fact it's filled with stupid, contrived events which follow a linear, scripted path, for example your fighter will break his hand before a certain fight and have to do the fight one handed, not only is that completely unrealistic (if a boxer injures his hand the fight would be postponed) but it will happen at the exact same time in every career mode you do with no variation which is just cheap game design.

It should be possible to break your hand during a fight but that should be dynamic and dependant on appropriate events and circumstances (for example throwing a power body shot as your opponent turns so you punch him on the hip bone)........

Eep, thanks for the info Grim, didn't know any of that =/ Seems like a stupid feature that they have just thrown in there without any thought then.. Control wise, i can understand why they haven't made it like FNR3's because then there wouldnt be much difference between the two, which FNR3 got spot on.. Tbh, i dont think any boxing game can match it, I don't even think they can improve it much either except more boxers, arena's and a different career..

Info is from IGN's recent hands on.......

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/866/866437p1.html

Our main concerns are with the in-ring fighting and overall replayability. Apparently there is one path through the 50 fights in a career, meaning that if you break your hand in the third fight then you'll always break your hand in that fight, no matter if you start fresh with a newly designed boxer. The actual boxing needed another coat of paint as well as its fluidity was lacking, thus bringing the overall realism.

Considering that for a boxing game the most important aspects are in-ring fighting and overall replayability it's a bit worrying that the game is supposedly released in two months, methinks I'll wait for Prizefighter 2009.......

rocky 1 was a good game, and forced knockout kings to evolve into fight night. but the sequel to the rocky game felt really old next to fight night.

bring on round 4 " ding....ding "
