TW3: Version 1.01 and 1.03 PS4 comparison

TW3: Version 1.01 and 1.03 PS4 comparison

The 1.03 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available on PS4, and it's just in time to do a first test of our own in-house framerate tool, still under very active development but hopefully good enough to give reliable results. So, there it is, a comparison between the day one patch (1.01) and today's (1.03) on PS4.

A quick explanation, each vertical white line means a new frame has been detected. Each transparent line means a frame has been duplicated. A game locked at 30 (29.97) fps would show a perfect mix of white and transparent lines. A larger white line means the game outputs (temporarily) more than 30 fps, and a larger transparent line means it's going below 30. Enjoy! :)

Does that mean you have plans for releasing framerate comparisons for multiplatform titles in the future?

Oh man! I've been wanting a digital foundry style video from Gamersyde. Awesome job guys!

Hey guys sorry to bother you again, but have you seen an uncompressed copy of the Launch Trailer anywhere, or are you yourselves planning on posting it?

This one:

Great work on the coverage.

Anyone else still stuck on 1.01 for PS4? I keep hearing that v1.03 is out now, but when I try to update it says I have latest version at 1.01. Are we 2 updates behind here in the states?

Me, too. Didn't receive any update yet.
I don't know what the hell is going on, maybe this happens not only in the states, because I live in China.

It seems that the frame-rate of 1.03 version are much stabler than 1.01, but still has some drops occasionally.
Can you provide a comparison video of free gameplay? As far as I felt during the game, frame-rate varies fiercely. Sometimes it even stopped completely during a fight for about 0.1 second or so, too obvious.
Still haven't receive any update yet…

BTW, I like your frame-rate test tool, it seems to be even better than DF's tool.

I hope you keep improving your frame-rate tool and doing more detailed tests, maybe also get a hardware/graphics expert to do some write-ups too.

Because for the consoles Digital Foundry is the only reason i (rarely) visit Eurogamer, and i'd rather never visit that SJW infested site again.

We have no plans on doing write ups or even doing many console versions comparisons, the tool is just there to show how the framerate of a game is , before anything else.

You should know by now that when we don't put up videos it's not by choice, it's because there is no uncompressed version to be found anywhere. Please stop making such requests, we know our job. Thanks.

The frame rate in the PS4 version is shocking at times, especially in the cities and during combat with lots of enemies. A solid 30fps should be the absolute minimum for a current gen game, with 60fps very desirable.

About the game

What's up?

GriftGFX That gamasutra articles doesn't mention either MNC or DirtyBomb though. So I think we can agree that people tend to overlook gaps in the genre's history. This shit did not kick off with Battleborn/OW. (6 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX OW and DirtyBomb are not MOBA-light games. They are team FPS games that have heroes. (14 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX DirtyBomb did something that was at the time unique. You could not call it unique anymore. (16 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @Tinks: I know you think that. But they're not really the same genre. (16 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I could be wrong, but I think the first MNC really did just have classes and no overlapping roles. Think they added "pros" in the sequel. (16 minutes ago)
  • Tinks
Tinks some lean more moba, or more tower defense, or more shooter, but I think everything we're talking about is connected (28 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Surely you can spot the differences. (32 minutes ago)
