Videos of the new FFXV demo

Videos of the new FFXV demo

Japanese players have been granted a new demo for Final Fantasy XV, allowing them to discover the beginning of the adventure. What's more, this trial version of the long-awaited RPG features 2 graphics mode for PS4 Pro, but also HDR (whose implementation is far from being convincing). The first mode pushes the visual quality while the second proposes a steadier (and higher) framerate. If you don't have a Japanese PSN account and don't want to bother open one, check out our videos.
The demo is also available on Xbox One. It is even simpler to get it as you only have to change your console's region to access the Japanese market.

Probably get a Pro this Xmas if they manage to lock the framerate to 60fps. I'd be ok with minimal drops until it either gets a PC release or improves a year from now on Scorpio or something, then I'll just double-dip.

The combat camera is definately going to make me dizzy...

The higher framerate mode feels great but the better graphics mode unfortunately stutters a lot for me and feels sluggish especially when moving the camera. It looks much better though so i hope they fix it at launch

Tip for XBox One owners. You can also go to and log in with your gamertag and download the demo that way, no need to change it on the console itself.

That being sad.....the framerate compared to the Duscae demo is insane, it's smooth as hell and i honestly don;t notice much framedrops during combat. Also the aliasing is much less present now. But it's not all good news, it is also blurry as all hell, as if vaseline was thrown over it. I improved it myself thanks to a option on my TV called super resolution, but that is not how the game itself looks.

I've played it on my regular PS4, it's so much more polished than Episode Duscae and Platinum Demo. They said the delay was for optimization and they really delivered it.

This reminds me of The Witcher 3. Several delays prior to release but the game wasn't really optimized until dozens of patches. Well, at least it was much more on time than FF XV.

Back to topic. Anti-aliasing is much much much better than both previous demos and any trailers has shown to date. The shimmering allover foliage and hair is now almost gone. Yeah, almost, it's still present during some cutscenes when the camera is really close to the character, especially the hair of the prime minister of Niflheim, but I didn't notice any during gameplay. I think this is good enough for me.

And they have really done some hard work on the frame-rate, I can't test it but I know it's better than the previous demos and it felt pretty stable. I'm looking forward to the patch they talked about to deliver 60 fps on PS4 Pro, that'll be a big motive for me to get a PS4 Pro.

I haven't pre-odered FF XV yet, and now I think I must.

Me too, hoping for a smooth 60fps if they can manage that then i will get a Pro for it, if not the console has to Waite until the launch of Horizon Zero Dawn.

The higher framerate mode in the demo feels great even though its around 40-50, so if they manage to improve it even more by launch its gonna be amazing .

Wish i could say the same for the Xbox One version. While it is indeed an improvement over the previous demos, the PS4 version looks a lot......a lot better than Xbox One. Kinda surprised me how big the difference was. I saw several screenshots on Neogaf of the PS4 version and that looked incredibly crisp and clear, nothing like Xbox One. And that's in comparison to how the demo looks on my OLED with some settings enabled that i usually never have to crank this high for other games. I checked it out on another TV and it's unacceptable blurry. This is probably going to be the first multiplatform game where the differences are very big.

Are any of you guys having problems playing these 4k60-files? For me they lag to a point of almost freezing and have a weird blocking artifact when downloaded. I have tried with VLC, WMP and Kodi. I dont have any problems playing 4k-content (ofc with lower bitrate) from other sites. They are unwatchable streamed in Chrome also.

I have an overclocked i5 and a GTX780 (capable to play some games in 4k) so that shouldn´t be the problem? Am I missing some important codec?

Have you tried Media Player Classic and Windows 10's Movie & TV app ?

I can play our 4K videos without any framedrop on my 3 years old Surface Pro 2 which only has a mobile i5 (2 cores HT) and Intel GPU with the Windows 10 Movies & TV app.

Chrome is not the best way to stream 4K videos, it uses too much CPU, try Edge, it runs way better on my PC to play such videos and only use GPU decoding.

EDIT : I just did more tests on my Surface Pro 2 with a 4K downloaded file :
- Movies & TV : smooth
- Windows Media Player : smooth
- Media Player Classic : huge frame drops, unwatchable
- VLC : an image every 10sec, worst player ever

Playing a 4K stream :
- Chrome : laggy, slowmotion
- Edge : smooth, not a single frame dropped

For anyone interested i have a few comparison screenshots of Xbox One and PS4. Check them out in full screen to see the difference. It looks better than the X1 shots on my TV but that is all thanks to LG, the TV, not the game. First game where the difference is this big.

the trailer, FFXV Universe on the Demo is pretty hype.

Thank you Miguel!

The W10-app strangely got the same result as VLC, but hey! The WMP Classic-tip worked (partly) for the downloaded files! A few hiccups, sure, but lightyears better than before. Yey! :)

The streaming still doesnt work though. Tried it with W10-Edge and no luck. Its still a slideshow. But it´s ok, i download the clips most of the time anyway. :)

Are you using HTML5 or Flash to stream ? HTML5 should give better results.
Commented on 2016-11-13 20:12:56 In reply to Miguel
I always choose HTML5. To be clear, I have never had any problems with 1080p60-content, the problems started with the bump up to 4k.

Maybe my computer simply decided to reject GSY suddenly, heh. I also went from lightning-fast streaming and downloading to superslow, even though I have a 250 mbit/s connection..

Thanks for these vids, as I have got access to my PS4 Pro at the moment. I must say, it looks stunning on the Pro...quite a nice step up from the regular versions.

The colors now are vibrant, reminds me of Just Cause 3, maybe JC3 devs helped, or maybe it influenced FFXV devs.
