Rise & Shine will finally be available on PC and Xbox One tomorrow, and in case you don't remember, we have already talked about the game on several occasions on Gamersyde. Since we were able to complete the game in time, we have a verdict to share with you guys, and a few videos of the PC version to go with it. We will also be live for 30 minutes tonight if you have questions about the game, starting from 9:15 CET.
Thanks to its awesome graphics and well-balanced mechanics, Rise & Shine clearly has some solid arguments to put forward, provided you don't mind the fact that it is based on trial and error. Spanish developer Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team (:breathe:) has done an amazing job, creating a game which require skills and patience, without becoming too frustrating in the process. Its only real flaw is that it doesn't take much more than 3 to 4 hours to complete, which is bound to disappoint some players.Given the game features a plot, it would have been possible to add a few twists to make the game longer, but it would probably have been too difficult to tackle for this team of 4 people only. Considering the level of polish they have achieved, what they have been able to do is still very impressive and this first game is particularly promising for their future projects. No Spain, no gain.
On the plus side
+ Gorgeous visuals
+ Excellent soundtrack
+ The references to other games and the humor in general
+ Gameplay mixing TPS and shoot them up mechanics
+ Demanding but not unbeatable
+ Not too exepensive (€/$12.99 at launch on Steam and €/$14.99 on XB1)
On the downside
- Too short (3 to 4 hours tops)
- Why reveal the plot twist so soon?
the arcade shadow dancer is also nice, built on the same gameplay foundations as arcade shinobi, but a bit weaker level design. i also love rolling thunder 1&2, which are also very similar (2 Hours ago)
i played a bit of shinobi and kunoichi on ps2, but they are really just shinobi in name. (2 Hours ago)
game gear shinobi is more like the arcade version than the mega drive ones. (2 Hours ago)
I'd love some kind of real Sega revival. (2 Hours ago)
I like a bunch of Shinobi games. Even the Game Gear had great Shinobi games. Also the PS2 Shinobi was too quickly forgotten. (2 Hours ago)
my fav Sega game is Shinobi (original arcade). I still play it now and then. I think they have other, more recognizable and iconic characters/brands, but for me those games don't hold up as well today (2 Hours ago)
Wasn't really bashing it anyway. I love a lot of Sega stuff, and I think Shenmue is okay. Maybe a bit overrated is all. (2 Hours ago)
