What does that mean?

"semi permanent damage"

I think it means, damage that can't be healed until reaching the next checkpoint, which would make up for the health regeneration a bit.. I think. It's either that or the emotional damage dealt to the user by playing the game ;)

Interesting stuff.. I guess I could see that working out. Semi-permanent damage is good news, at least.
Yep it may help to get allot more new gamers onboard and hooked on this game

allot

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.."

And if you mean that, by making the game easier it will attract a lot of new gamers, or a new audience.. I don't think that's a good thing at all. But the "semi-permanent" aspect of it makes it sound far less damaging than it could stand to be.

Well the game will cater for many levels, so there will be no lost for the hardcore gamers.

Here's what I'm thinking "semi-permanent" damage that can also recharge could mean.

Some fighters have health bars that, when you are attacked, leave a colored rectangle to indicate where your health began before the attack (usually yellow?) and then the red health bar slowly refills only that portion, *unless* you are attacked again before it refills, at which point the ability to regenerate your health beyond that mark would require something like a potion (in this case).

That would be cool. I hope that's what they are talking about. I want to know more though, because NG1 was such a finely tuned game that I'm worried that changing too much could break its balance.

From what I understand, the health will recharge only to a certain point, so instead of being left with a slither of health, it'll give you a bit more of a chance - personally I hope the difficulty is sufficiently ramped enough to counter.

Likewise. I do not think you can actually make the game easier and still cater to the "hardcore" fans. The level of difficulty is one thing that attracted a certain audience to this game, and I think they risk alienating that audience.

On the other hand, the ability to stock up on health packs from the in game store made certain encounters easier if you knew what you were going to be facing.. so if they tone down the reliance on items to recharge your health, that could ultimately be a good thing all around.

This is NG we are talking about and Itagaki. LOL. Itagaki should spin kick you for saying the game will be easier. It will only get hard.

What's with all the uncertainty surrounding how the health will work? It really seems pretty obvious based on what's been divulged so far.

Have they said there will be no items? I can see room for both.

What RAZ says sounds good to me. Maybe this recharging health addition will give them room to make the harder modes even harder. B)

The environments also appear to be bigger, but who knows.
It seems to have bigger environment, that is what this game needs.
All the small places they put in big enemies that makes the camera shit...especially near the end of NG were you go room to room in a castle to meet some sort of a lord demon.
