No I base my opinions on empirical evidence and not bullshit. That's all.

I can't believe you're even asserting that Bad Company 2 is a better game without having any experience.

That's not rational. I'm drinking the kool aid? You don't have your own opinion.

How many of the 29 BF3 maps did you even play? Am I only allowed to compare Bad Company 2 level design to Operation Metro? Because then.. sure.. Bad Company 2 is better!

Dude, I played the game "empirical evidence" is where everyone's opinion is coming from in this thread.
A thread in which no one is agreeing with your empirical evidence.
Apparently mine is bullshit even though it's the majority right now? You're all alone here Grift

You just said you hadn't played BF4. Make up your mind.

Is it down to the three of us to decide on what's right here? I don't think it's a vote.

I doubt everyone in the Battlefield community would agree with either of us.

On the subjective issues no one is "right." But if you haven't played it you do not have an informed opinion and it's not really worth discussing.

BF4 is more convoluted than BF3 in a lot of ways. If you're looking for simplicity, I don't think you'll like it.

But there are other aspects of it that you probably would enjoy more than BF3. It's hard to recommend to someone who hates BF3 anyway. So.. look for the discount heh.. It's easy to recommend to someone who enjoyed BF3 though. That's a no brainer at this point. The game "works" to that standard and is pretty fun.

I have a lot of very specific complaints about both titles. I usually direct that at Battlelog though. And now CTE, only in a more friendly manner.

And you told me BF4 was totally broken, and still has really poor design
Page 18 at the top still talks about fixing net code
Am I missing a lot so far? Or maybe I didn't play enough maps in BF3

You agree on one level because you prefer Battlefield 2, so you obviously don't hold 3 or 4 very high in comparison

Population isn't high here so just 3 or 4 people is sort of normal for majority on GSY.
When you call an opinion straight up "bullshit", I think you're making a statement of who is right. I was kinda pointing out that you're saying everyone in this thread is full of shit apparently

"Totally broken" refers to the launch, which I absolutely agree with.

They're "fixing the netcode" beyond the standard of Bad Company 2. Or Battlefield 2, for that matter. Although the community should understand that so long as administrators allow high ping players on servers, there are natural limitations. Ya know.. physics.

And uh.. yeah.. you probably didn't :D

I called your opinion bullshit because you're asserting that Bad Company 2 is better than BF4, without having played BF4. And you are, because you're talking about things like the "slope" that Battlefield is on. How can you know these trends so well without first hand experience? Come on! You also make a lot of statements about things like the netcode, and the support for the game without actually knowing what they're doing. That's what's bullshit.

I mean come on.. tell me how broken this game you haven't played is..

That other dude? He's still entitled to his opinion. I was not talking to anyone else.

And that last bit is meant as a joke. Of course you're entitled to think all sorts of things. I still value your direct opinions about Bad Company 2, even if I don't agree with them. I just don't think you can aptly compare it to the current state of Battlefield. Not that I think you'd like the current state of Battlefield that much.

If the Battlefield community really cares about netcode, people need to start putting pressure on server admins to keep the pings reasonable. It gets kinda ridiculous. I realize that some people don't have populated servers in their territory, but there are plenty of Europeans and Asians that play on US servers for some reason. We need to get a handle on that.

Oh.. and in terms of bad design. For sure! There's plenty. The good just mostly outweighs the bad and there's nothing that breaks the basics. Thinking critically about Battlefield has never yielded a perfect experience. I have plenty of complaints about Battlefield 2 too.

Tell me you tried Hardline before lambasting that at least. It was free.

Edit: Okay you did.. on page 17. Cool :D

I'm not buying Hardline either.. I'm just glad it wasn't a total argument from ignorance.

You know I played it. Maybe I should be more direct, I'm lambasting 3, Hardline, and the history of what has gone on which includes how they've handled 4.
I'm saying they're handling themselves pretty poorly these days!

Also you seem to think my opinion on the current state of BF won't change even after I play 4, so what's the difference either way.
You will still think I'm wrong and say my hours were too low to be informed. Or that I didn't try it when it was 1.6 instead of 1.7 version.

You make assumptions on a Battlefield that doesn't exist yet either. IE the netcode standard

It doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong. Let's get over that.

I just don't think anyone who hated BF3 is going to love BF4. There are too many similarities.

I like BF3 a lot more than Bad Company 2. So naturally I like BF4 a lot more too.

What do you mean? This is based on evidence too. They patched the high frequency bubble (which is still experimental!) into the Hardline beta, post launch, because it was still running an old version of the netcode. It would be a big waste of money not to spread that support to other Frostbite games.

Posted this on gaf... but here's my best attempt at why BC2 > all other BF games and basically my favorite MP shooter of all-time.

-destruction
-balanced maps with a really good push/pull feel to them
-guns had recoil and when you got shot by someone you typically had a second or two to react and counter... instead of dying instantaneously and respawning a second or two later across the map

That's literally it... well, that plus loading C4 onto 4 wheelers and UAVs and blowing shit up.

.... and the SAIGA

.... and the m60

Fuck that game rules

The recoil + high TTK statement followed by M60 praise seems contradictory.. I remember a headshot laser. Like an easier to shoot SCAR-H with a belt magazine! But ya know what...

I also loved blowing up M-COMs with C4 quads. They nerfed the UAV though. C4 quads are still a riot.

Is Bad Company 2 still playable? At least you guys have that. RIP BF2.

I played BC2 a few weeks ago for a round. Movement is definitely worse as Grift says, but I can say I preferred everything else over BF3/4/H. Which is why I'm hoping for a BC3. Grenade launched a building down on a sniper and watched crumble killing him. OH THE BATTLEFEELS!

I still think a lot of that has to do with scale. You can level some of the less structured maps in most of these games. My position on this has always been that "Bad Company" no longer makes sense. It's just not unique enough of a brand to stand apart from the core series. Anything they could do to improve upon the modern warfare setting might as well just be called "Battlefield."

But.. if they made Bad Company 3, I would totally expect the core mechanics to be "up to date." I'd be pretty okay with that. And it would stagger the need for "BF5," but I still don't know how they'd continue to keep the two unique entities.

My opinion doesn't matter much since I disagree with the premise, but Panama Canal was my favorite map. I mostly played conquest though.

Question: rush fan?
You betcha. Rush was made for Bad Co. I don't really like the transition its made to BF3 and 4 though. How could you not like Rush? Conquest is the tried and true but Rush was a nice change and a way to tunnel everyone towards a specific objective. I've played way too much BF and am somewhat sick of the ring-around-the-rosy way players circle the map capturing and recapturing points. It's a result of a lack of cohesiveness and coordination (which is impossible on 64 player pub servers). It's gets to be quite maddening.

But lets get back to the point. DICE cant put their finger on why players loved Bad Company. What does that say?

And answer! But I recognize that it's popular. Because meat grinders!

I like rush on super low player counts, because you can actually be tactical. Then it can be a hoot. A good game of rush is a rarity in any Battlefield game. I find the idea that BC2 rush maps were all balanced a bit amusing. I think nostalgia is painting a prettier picture of this game than reality. I'd rather they bring back double assault, and kill rush :D

Ironically.. I've been enjoying the CTE rush test, but the community has a lot to do with that.

The best answers here are: I like maps. I like destruction. I like guns.

DICE wants to know what made Bad Company distinct, and so far, no one is really spelling that out. Anything they could do to improve on the modern warfare setting, would be indistinguishable from what they would call "Battlefield 5." What is specific to Bad Company? Does anyone know? If it's something about rush.. why not just improve rush in the core franchise? What improvements to the franchise would belong squarely to "Bad Company?" It's not just about what's better.

I'm pretty sure it's just branding and a "funny" campaign.

In my ideal world, the core franchise would still be PC exclusive, and Bad Company would still be a console game. That would be pretty distinct.

You make it seem like 64 player Op Metro or Op Locker. Explain to me how 24 player Atacama Desert Rush was a meat grinder? Lol?

You need to see things more objectively. Just because you didn't like something doesn't mean its bad. :)

Well I did.
Posted by WarriorJ
The reason it was so successful was because Bad Company is the first time DICE took a risk since the original Battlefield. The game has more character and more atmosphere then any other title in the series, AND they took a chance and added destruction to the gameplay.
You say core franchise so much, and reference how it's never been as good as it was in BF2. What made BC so great, Grift, was progression. The series began to move forward. BF3/4 were made to appease YOU, and a great deal of you still complained. Now, we're left with this Hardline thing and it's beginning to reveal how stagnate the series has become. I fear for the future.

"Good" and "bad" are subjective in this case, so, duh..
case in point.
Case in what point? You even agree that it's "character" that makes it distinct.

The latter bit clearly says "my ideal world" What's wrong with that? Emphasize the individual.
Posted by WarriorJ
Well I did.
That doesn't really address my point. What would make "BC3" distinct?

My point, again, is that anything they can do to improve BF4 might as well be called "BF5." Otherwise, you really are just talking about tacking on "character" and a funny campaign. They need to be fundamentally different, or it's just redundant.

And you're saying they designed Battlefield 3 to appease BF2 fans? What a tragedy for the series! :D

Beyond our disagreement.. I think that's the only place for the conversation to go. What do you imagine Bad Company 3 would be? And how would it differ from Battlefield 5.

I think out of place spin-offs make more sense personally. 2143 makes more sense.

You guys are the ones that want to go back in time.

I'm playing CTE gameplay initiative #2 patch #5 tonight instead.

I'll play BC3, because it will basically be BF5 with a rush twist/focus and a funny campaign. They'll update the core mechanics, so I look forward to it.
