With Last Stand, you’ll get one last ditch effort to continue the fight before you bleed out, or take another lethal hit. When you customize your class with Last Stand, or choose a default class which has it, anytime you’re taken down, you’ll fall to the ground and instantly pull out your side arm.

While in Last Stand, you’ll be firing your side arm from the ground with one hand. Putting up one final last stand against the enemy before you bleed out, or they put one final round into you.
Alternatively, you can chose to take your own life while in that position, denying the other team of a kill. "Hold (X) Cowards way out." :O

I'm seriously overwhelmed by all of the solid looking shooters lined up for the next 6 months. Fantastic shit.

Multiplayer Perk #2: DEEP IMPACT
WMV HD
http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/swcc_content.php?...
QT HD
http://www.charlieoscardelta.com/swcc_content.php?...
This week we’re showing off the multiplayer perk, “Deep Impact.” Before I jump into the details of what Deep Impact allows you to do, here’s the low-down on Bullet Penetration in the game.

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, we’ve introduced a new Bullet Penetration system to both Single-player and Multiplayer that allows you to shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings).

That said, what you can shoot through depends on three main variables:

The Ballistics of the weapon you’re using.
The relative ‘thickness’ of the object you’re shooting through.
The distance between you and the object you’re firing into.
These three things determine IF you can shoot through the object, and if you can, how strong the bullet will be once it passes through it.

It changes the entire way you play the game; suddenly it’s not just about getting to cover, but about getting to hard cover. In multiplayer, this can change your tactics dramatically. Rather than simply picking a weapon to take into a firefight, you can carefully craft your weapon’s load out to the environment you’ll be fighting in.

In the video, we made sure to take huge advantage of bullet penetration, showing off how the M249 SAW makes light work of thin plaster walls and wooden floor boards. Now how does the Deep Impact perk play into this?

Well, for a weapon like the M249 Saw (featured in the video), obviously it has the power to easily shoot through plaster walls, wooden floors, and even some fairly thick stone walls--but what about an M4 Carbine, or some other lower caliber rifle? Normally, weapons like these wouldn’t be able to penetrate stone walls or thick surfaces like the M249 SAW.

However, if you have Deep Impact selected as a perk, you will have INCREASED bullet penetration on whatever weapon you use. This allows you to pierce thicker objects, and with increased strength as it passes through. Turn Deeper Impact on and your M4 Carbine that used to be stopped by thin walls now penetrates through them easily, taking out anyone attempting to use it as cover.

Keep in mind though; you are limited to only three perks per custom class. So in order to have Deep Impact, you’re giving up something else, such as LAST STAND, or another perk. Choices…. Choices

Interesting. The three perks per custom class thing could work well to balance the customization. Global unlocks plz.

Game just keeps looking better and better. Funny how the visual fidelity doesn't seem to interfere with the framerate or my line of site. ;)

And 60fps on top of that :P CoD4 is really turning into another classic from IW.

Surfaces have a variety of penetrable depths, and this is a feature that's been in other games before. Granted, that SAW is shooting through a pretty thick wall, but it's not completely unrealistic. An M4, well that's a different story.. but I guess we'll see how it all works out. The different customizations do stand to throw COD off balance, but it's not impossible that it's balanced.

We'll see. I think it's going to be fantastic.

Yeah, I was gonna say! The concept isn't new, but they do seem to be developing a very broad/robust material system. Ballistics and penetratable materials is not only realistic, but offers a very subtle mechanic to deepen the gameplay and balance.

No more standing behind brush or a thin wood fence and being safe. Hence you rely on skills like... sound! And instead of ruining the game the balance shifts equally to "thinking" of sheer twitch.

I am all for it.

Apparently it has something to do with infinity ward having an amazing breakthrough with normal mapping on the 360 and it not taking nearly as much resources to run as it should and so as a result they achieve that amazing look while at 60fps with many other effects.

Not really just on the 360. Just in general on how they implement normal maps and its benefiting cod4 for 360, ps3 pc.

Yea, but they say something about their implementation being different and very powerful.

Produces incredible quality they expect, but very minor usage on resources or something like that than other methods.

True. In an IW interview they did comment about normal mapping everything and actually cutting their poly count. If this is the case they could do some nifty LOD. They also emphasized lighting, which can be quite intensive. If you are doing all sorts of passes for SH, AO maps, parallax mappings, tone mapping, specular, normals, diffuse, and such plus various shadowing techniques (static geometry, dynamic objects casting onto static geometry, dynamic objects casting onto dynamic objects, etc) -- with all this gunk going on, lower geometry can be a big win, especially on shadowing stuff. And if they are doing some new nifty lighting techniques that reduce the number of passes they could be getting some nice wins.

The 360 still has a lot of potential. Raw performance it has been passed, but featureset wise it is robust and also balanced (much more than some of the ATI products out now). Game engines like UE3, CoD2, etc were designed with SM2.0 class hardware in mind. VERY FEW developers have spent time looking at algorhythms that do well on SM4.0 class hardware *if* it neuters older harder. But as the market matures and the 360 becomes the baseline for development we will see it do quite a few things we didn't expect.

As it is we are seeing games doing MUCH better performance wise now with better visuals than last year this time.

I think they wrote very efficient shaders for everything, not only normal maps. According to snoopers, who was at CoD4 presentation, gameplay videos we've seen are nothing and we'll be amazed.

If it is also targeted to run in 1080p on 360, then that'll be totally insane. I wonder if he meant native 1080p or upscaled. You never know with this sort of statements...

I would guess upscaled, unless they are going for 1080p with no AA?

1080p with AA at 60fps would be insane on the 360...
