Selling a game in chunks. Sounds about right for todays industry practices. They'll probably sell materia for 5 quid a pop. Get the Weapon DLC, only 30 bucks!
no doubt, but the thing that worries me is, will i need wait for episode two to fly my ship around that part of the world map...
Posted by GunsnSwords
Do they mean episodic? how will that even work into RPG context? what about leveling up characters and backtracking, will all that pass through the content?
-------------------------------------------------------
on the side, SE said the game is expected to make further graphical changes. i hope they fix Cloud's arms and his hair, it looks a little to hard around the edges and it shimmers a lot in motion.
i presume they mean it will get to certain point on disk 1 and be like to be continued........ will also likely mean the there will be no world map, unless they are going lock the majority of it until the next episode comes out, then you can travel to these places...

basically this crap is the same thing they are doing with hitman, i figure they think by doing that they can make so much more extra cash... doing it for the fans... yeah right

No world map would be impossible to imagine. I checked out this interview from Square-Enix and in it says quote -

"In an interview with Japanese game publication Famitsu that Square Enix translated, the publisher revealed that the remake of the 1997 role-playing game will include areas and content not in the original.

“For instance, players will be able to explore many different areas of Midgar in this game that they couldn’t access in the original — if we’re remaking this world, we want to add in areas like this and depict them with real detail,” the translated interview from Square Enix attributed to Final Fantasy VII Remake’s director Tetsuya Nomura.

“Of course, there may be parts that are cut from the original for various reasons, but with all the new depiction that we’re adding to the game and the level of detail we’re incorporating, the overall amount of content is only going to increase.”
http://venturebeat.com/2015/12/07/square-confirms-...

so the game is both going to be "large" and in some other places "cut".........not sure what to make of that really. i hate to see anything cut from the original.

Wouldn't a format like.. Final Fantasy VII-2 make more sense for Square Enix?

The game might end up being good. they might even add in more content to complete the game. If it's all episodic then that leaves room for them to add.

As long as there's a world map then i'm cool with it. What worries me next over is if it feels like a 3rd person narrative of the original FFVII. I would like it to focus on much of the original characters.

For those complaining about Cloud looking sick. He is suppose to look sick! He had biological experiments done on him via Mako energy! So shut up already....damn (Housequake). Anyway, I'm loving the look, and even the newer combat...however, I'm not feeling the episodic content format this game will be done in. That's completely retarded for an RPG.

Well, the original was massive, and converting into this format would make it...bigger than any rpg I can think of. If this is a way they can keep the original scope and even expand it, then I am okay with it. I don't think it will be episodic. It will be 3 full releases to keep the title. I am okay with this beside FFXV.

Here is a comparison of Cloud Strifes i made.

Original
https://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/2014/02/2...

Original FMV
http://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/111355-fi...

Both Original art had pretty thin arms, cloud's legs were also longer too with baggy pants.

Advent Children. (noticeably more human, thicker arms too.)

http://thelifestream.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/0...

Dissidia 1 Art (anorexic cloud)
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/dissidia/image...

Dissidia 2 CGI (more muscle)
http://www.renders-graphics.com/image/upload/norma...

Dissidia Newest (happy Cloud, a pinch more muscle too)
http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/i...

Remake Cloud (life sucked)
http://i.picpar.com/WbCb.png
http://i.picpar.com/VbCb.png
http://i.picpar.com/XbCb.png

.....I think i might like the life sucked Cloud, none of what he ever goes through in the game was good. FFVII was a very depressing game to begin with. ---My two cents.

more news on the FFVII remake -

"According to a statement received by Kotaku, each installment will have the material of a full title and will tell a complete story. Because "full-sized" games can vary in length between 10 hours and 200 hours (or more), this doesn't necessarily help us pin down exactly what the publisher is going for with this new approach."
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/12...

so the parts are going to be long. as long as a whole game i'm guessing.

Here is a comparison of Cloud Strifes i made.
In all honesty, it looks like the Remake's Cloud's arms look thinner than the Original's Cloud's arms, if it's true or my mind playing tricks on me I don't know, just my impression.

I much prefer the Advent Children's Cloud - and Barret - design, they looked way more human and with the power of Unreal Engine 4 and PlayStation 4, Square Enix could make the Remake's character design and graphics very similar to Advent Children, which is a movie from 2005.

Also, to the people that keep saying that Cloud was sickly in the Original, try to remember that most of the time you played with Cloud's SD character design, which was basically the same as the other characters' SD designs.
While the story described Cloud like that, the majority of time you spent with the game was with Cloud looking like everyone else.

It's one of those things that the more realistic you go in the Remake compared with the more comical nature of the Original, the more different and far apart they look. Hence why at first glance, it "feels" different than the original.

Anyway, I will still support the Final Fantasy 7 Remake as much as I can, and I'm sure no matter what character and art direction they take the game, even if weird/odd at first, after some hours everyone will get used to it. It's just that right now it's hard to so at first impression from a short trailer and some images.

PS. Thanks for the images and all the info!

Let's be clear here, Cloud was never huge in any way. Imo it just goes a bit far in this iteration. He looks like he weighs 80 lbs and shoots heroin.

That said, in any style that's even remotely realistic, the Buster Sword is going to look patently absurd. I don't really care if it's realistic or not, but both being a sickly twig of a man and also the strongest elite soldier in the world kinda doesn't mesh well with me in the context of the game. Sure the mako infusion may make Soldier members by far stronger than usual people, but Twiggy McSpaghettiarms over here is hard for me to suspend my disbelief on when it's not animoo anymore. That's really the only beef i have. Other than that it looks great.

Cloud doesn't need to be Huge, but he shouldn't look like you could break him in half either. I'd be perfectly fine with the Advent Children look (with slightly more masculine facial features).

Hmm, to me that says: full size game; full game prices. So, we'll be paying 3x the amount for full remake of the original. The dellux all-in-one bundle a year later after all installments are out will probably be a discount 60 quid.

It's interesting how your two statements sort of contrast each other. Cloud's arms were technically super thin because everyone was super deformed in design.
http://i.picpar.com/9dCb.png

And everyone was use to that. not many liked it but that was FFVII. Maybe the artists are striking a balance between designs. Here's another quote on the FFVII Remake -

"We learn that the team is aiming to balance realism and stylized look. If the characters were to appear too realistic, they wouldn’t be recognizable, so they’re looking to settle one step shorter of realism in order to preserve the characters personalities.

The models from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children are too outdated to be used, as they’re ten years old. Elements like eyes, nose, hair and more have to be redesigned to achieve the right visual balance. Cloud looks suitably pale (even if the lighting influenced that in the trailer), and all party members will get a renewed appearance."
http://www.dualshockers.com/2015/12/07/final-fanta...

That might sum things up about the art design choices.

So this looks great imo, the only thing that bothers me is that they modeled Could like he suffers from some sort of eating disorder. Look at those twiggy goddamn arms! He looks malnourished ffs :)
lol yea ... he does look a bit on the small side ... guess back then (before advent children) he was kinda puny :p

Happy I won't be playing the same game (honestly I put in too many damn hours in that game to play the same thing again ... fdat) ... looking forward to see what they do with this given all the games that have come out since then.

Glad it's different. Nobody wants the same game even if they think they do. My only concern is what sacrifices have been made in tactical department such as whether playing with other characters is still a mechanic.
