2006-12-03 03:21:42 In reply to GriftGFX (2006-12-03 02:09:49) Posted by GriftGFX Is there live multiplayer in Culdcept Saga? When does it come out in the USA? I think I'll be picking up the force feedback wheel soon. Anyone else get it yet? So what do you think about Blue Dragon Jollipop? lol......... --- |

2006-12-03 05:22:33 http://www.forzamotorsport.net/ "Everyone knows it can be extremely difficult to control a racing simulator with a gamepad. One thumb, a three centimeter thumbstick and about one centimeter of travel just doesn’t provide as much fidelity as a steering wheel. It takes a lot of manual dexterity to precisely modulate such a small control -- especially when controlling a simulation engine like Forza Motorsport 2 with its physics running at 360 frames per second. Most players are reduced to tapping the control, thereby reducing the control to little more than a digital gamepad. Can you imagine driving your real car at high speeds using only digital inputs – full lock right, full lock left, wide open throttle and pedal through the floor braking? "Recently Che gave me an odd-looking piece of plastic that snaps onto the Xbox 360 gamepad thumbstick head. This accessory for your accessory is meant to increase the controllable surface area of the thumbstick. Basically, it’s a better lever. While I "got" the theory immediately, I was skeptical about how effective it could really be. "After using it for the better part of the afternoon, I’m convinced. While it’s no replacement for a good racing wheel, it’s a remarkable improvement over an unaltered thumbstick. I’m able to roll my thumb across the control and use the raised walls to manipulate the control much more precisely. It just feels natural. I’m always struck by how some of the most meaningful innovation is often the most low-tech improvements on an old idea. "It’s a shame about the bright green color. The Xbox 360 controller is a nice piece of industrial design. Pardon the pun, but this thing sticks out like a sore thumb. "Here’s the bottom line. This thing is cheap and small. If you don’t mind looking like a dork using it, it will make you gamepad racing experience much better and probably drop your lap times as well." So there you have it folks. Turn 10's audio test lead and racing cockpit afficionado probably won't be trashing his setup any time soon, but this is pretty cool. Something to pick up for a stocking stuffer perhaps, or even for yourself if you're looking to improve your analog stick experience. --- |

2006-12-03 06:27:42 In reply to LEBATO (2006-12-03 03:21:42) Posted by LEBATO LOL, another change of topic. So what do you think about Blue Dragon Jollipop? lol......... That thumb attachment for the pad sounds interesting--I wonder if something simular would be good for increasing someones accuracy in a shooter? Oh no! That's another topic! ;P ...I really wish there were a cockpit cam in Forza 2 ;) |

2006-12-03 06:41:15 ...I really wish there were a cockpit cam in Forza 2 ;) I do have a temp solution: in the videos they show a "rough" trail camera. Part of what makes PGR3's camera nice is the inertia and bumpiness. Games have done inertia for a while to a small degree, but getting a smoothly-rough trailing camera view and hood cam would be cook. Get a feel for the bumps on the track and such. --- |

2006-12-03 06:55:05 Yea the hood cam should be enough for now, I suppose. Especially with the wheel--I'll just put a fan on my desk to simulate the wind. ;) |

2006-12-04 20:01:22 In reply to LEBATO (2006-12-04 19:57:49) Posted by LEBATO Are you people being sarcastic? That's how PGR3 looks minus the massive AA and somewhat weird lighting. Jolli didn't you say that increasing a games image quality didn't make it look much better--cause that's the only significant difference between photomode and in game PGR3. IQ makes a big difference! |
| LEBATO IS WRONG Since 1662 Days |
2006-12-04 20:11:18 It does look better but again, it's not that huge. The added AA does help a lot. The lighting in that pic above is not even realistic though, it looks like "end of the world" lighting. Compare with a real picture and you'll see. --- |

2006-12-04 20:16:56 Oh I know--I just think that if PGR3 had 4XAA it would look fantastic :) It already is one of the best looking 360 games to date still, imo. |

2006-12-04 21:03:50 Well no wonder you're not seeing a huge jump between 480p and 720p--that explains quite a bit. |

2006-12-05 01:01:07 There is a ton of other stuff you can tweak in photo mode too remember. Colour tone, blur, shutter speed and the like. It all helps. |
