Page << 1 2 3 >>Yeah I agree about two things said in this thread -
1, cant judge a game by screenshots. Nearly everyone on the board thought bulletwitch looked crap.
2, Agreed. this is what rumble roses should of looked like. But money is on that Konami are making an rr game for the ps3. So I would expect it to look class and on par with these character models.
Any news if this game will feel sweaty european hands?
Sadly, japanese games are almost always region locked. I can just hope a Xbox360 Freeloader is released any day so I don't have to gut my X360...
looks like NG clone a little
Yea, there sure as hell better be a way to play imports by the time Blue Dragon comes out.. :

On the top page, highlight the "Simple" button and click on Simple 2000.
Find Vol 101 and click it. It will bring you to the page for the latest version of this game on the PS2 that came out last month. There is even a sample movie.

I have a PS2 that plays Japanese game and I have the last 3 versions of this game that came out. It was vol 80, 90 and 101. I never got volume 60, which I believe was the first release.
Vol 101 is a special release of vol 90, so it is the same game with some new characters, costumes and music.
The gameplay is VERY good. It is fast paced action and the controls are great You can jump with the "X" button (double jump with XX), weapon attack with the "Square" button, kick with the "triangle" button , do a special attack with the "Circle" button, and do a life-draining special by hitting the "triangle and circle" buttons. Each character has unique special attacks. Also, there is a very deep combo system, which is triggered by the timing of button presses on the "X" button. The timing is different for all characters, and the combos also branch, so there are different paths to them.
What's neat is, the more you attack, the more you weapon (sword) gets covered in blood. It makes you attack timing slow down a bit, and if the sword gets completely covered, it will get stuck in the zombie as you attack. Holding the R1 button will cause the character to "swish" the sword and the blood will come off.
Vol 101 has a training mode that lets you practice the timing of these combos, which was helpful to me since I don't understand the Japanese text...hehe.
The only dig I have on the game is that it can be repetitive. Each version of the game only has 6 levels, but really only 3 since you play each of the levels twice and go different routes with maybe a couple of new rooms thrown in.
The replay comes in heavily by leveling up your character, and what is called the "Quest" mode, which are basically all your unlockables.
As you play the game and kill zombies, they will drop yellow and red orbs. The yellow orbs are experience points, and the better combo attacks you use, the more experience you get. When you complete a level, it tallies your experience points, and you gain levels. Gaining a level will give you 3 points you can add to your character. The 5 areas you can level up are (1) attack power, (2) vitality (life bar) , (3) reach (how far you sword will attack), (4) speed, and (5) ??? - which you basically just fill to unlock a new costume. You have to play the game a LOT to fill all these.
The red orbs fill up a rage counter. If the rage counter fills up, your character goes into beserk mode and the attack power get a big boost. However, your life also drains, and you take more damage. You can get items to get you out of this mode.
The quests are along the lines of "kill the boss" really fast on each level, or "kill the boss in rage mode" on each level, or "kill X many zombies" on each level....The unlockables are screen wallpapers, new characters and new costumes/
When you beat the game, you unlock a harder difficulty. The final difficulty, berserk mode is great....they ONLY drop red orbs and you are beserk the entire game.
There is also a survival mode which is a good way to level up. Sometimes, the boss on a level is just too powerfull until you level up. This is the best way to go....
OK.....how's THAT for info on this game??
Vol.61: Oneechanbara
Vol.80: Oneechanbara re-make (I think)
Vol.90: Oneechanbara 2
Vol.101: Oneechanbara 2 re-make
I haven't gotten around to 101 yet (could never find 90) but 80 was actually pretty fun. It's a simple room-corridor hack-n-slash sort of thing with very elimentary puzzles. The gimmicks were frenzy mode in which you go berzerk but if you are unable to come back down you'll die, and keeping your sword clean of gore or else it starts to lose its power and when it gets really gunked up it will start sticking in zombies which is a huge downer in the middle of fight lol. And tremendous amounts of gushing blood splattering everywhere.
Another notable game is Vol.63, Keientai or something, but I've seen it also titled as Women's Swimsuit Meet. Basically imagine DOAX minigames except more of them. I actually like this game more than DOAX lol.
But before anyone goes on a downloading spree I will offer this warning: most S2k games suck really bad.
there is a co-op mode.
So, you and a friend can play together, but not at the same time.
When you play a level, you pick 2 characters. Hitting the R1 button switches between them. So, it's cool...you string combos together using the 2 characters.
If you do co-op with a friend, when you hit the R1 button, the controls go to the other person. When they hit R1 on their controller, it goes back to you.
I JUST got Vol 63 and played it for the first time last night. What a coincidence. I find it very fun, and I got it because it sure looked like the mini-games from DOAX2.
Vol 101 is EXCELLANT. Especially if you never played vol 90. It blows volume 80 out of the water.
And you are right...most other Simple games are not good. I got one called "The Kung Fu", which looks promising cause the cover resembled Jackie Chan from drunken masters. However, the controls were so bad it was unplayable. At least this Oneechanbara series has great controls and is fun to play....and for 25.00, you cannot go wrong.

I also noticed another error I made.
It's the L1 button that cleans the sword of blood, not R1.
R1 is used to switch between your characters.
