DiRT PS3 version: Damages
2007-07-31 15:30:07 by BlimBlim
Codemasters released this video presenting the damage system used in Colin Mc Rae: DiRT, this time for the PS3 version. It certainly looks a lot like the 360 version, tearing including.

The frame rate issues in this game really get 2 me.
Well not REALLY... but it's still plently annoying. Any big crash and the fps drops.. completely ruins the best aspect of this game.

Hmm, still not convincing me...
Really seems a bit boring to me...
Haven't played the 360 version, but in my eyes, nothing has really changed, or do I oversee something...?
Didn't Codemasters say the PS3 version will have a little tuned optic and a better framerate??!!

The part that RUINED the game for me was the use of the center Y axis for turning (through the middle of the car instead of the back). The cars/trucks/rigs always felt like they were on a Merry-Go- Round instead of a track. It wasn't that noticable on the early tracks- but when you got to the middle or so and the speed picked up... and the course got more twisted... WOW. It was really noticable and very uncomfortable. After playing Forza for a while before this came out- I couldn't stomach the control sceme. I ended up trading it in for $35 and feeling like I'd learned a lesson. Now that it's coming to the PS3... I can look at what the developers are calling 'major improvements' and laugh. Unless they change the way the game PLAYS- I just don't care. (And no rumble?! On a Rally game?!?!)

I was so excited about this game... until I played the demo. You see rally cars drifting their way around tight turns or long sweeping corners, but on this game its impossible! Every time your car starts drifting it stops in less than 2 seconds!

it is NOT for the PS3 version, all of that footage, including the physics demonstration with the car crashing into tires can be seen on codemasters own videos on youtube, MONTHS OLD VIDEOS i might add..go check for yourself.

Kethmach: Yep Colin has always had the center-axis turning. It's like the car has no wheels at all, like running the quake guy down a track without strafing.
But then again people who play this and toca are a special breed. The un-enlightened, to put it mildly.
Unlike you (who were fooled by their next-gen smoothtalk) I knew that this was the UMPTEENTH POS in the same series from Codemasters and laughed at their empty promises. And again I did not have to regret.
In case anybody is wondering what the true rally racer of all time is, its Richard Burns Rally PS2/PC/Xbox1 until proven otherwise.
And as for Forza2, doing skilled and controlled powerslides with a mid or rear-engine car in that game is more rally than all the colins put together.

Screen tearing on 'next gen' consoles (with dedicated hardware) is the game industry saying "look, just give us your money and lower your standards at the same time so we can stop polishing our products". Thankfully a handfull of people/sites mention the screen tearing problem to bring it under public attention (thank you Gamersyde). You'd be suprised how many 'big' gaming websites avoid talking about this technical issue. Bottomline is: if reviewers don't mention it, people won't notice it and the industry can go on making this graphical crap (GRAW, MotoGP 2006, Splinter Cell IV, DiRT and the list goes on..).

For me- RalliSport Challenge was/is my favorite rally games. They're arcadey- but still a LOT better than this. And for the PS3 gamers out there (like me as well) Motorstorm- despite is limited track variety- is 100x better than DiRT. Graphics, Physics, Challenge, AI and most importantly FUN.
and to voodoocream "In rally, cars slide from the middle..." is absolutely not true. It's not physically possible for a vehicle to rotate from a center axis with it's turning wheels located in the front of the car. It's not possible. Period. It doesn't matter if a car has four wheels- ten wheels... it doesn't matter if it's Front wheel drive or Rear wheel drive or All wheel drive- a car moves forward and a car turns from the front tires guiding it in a new direction- thus the car does not- CAN NOT pivot from the center. Can't happen.

masteratt is right the "debate" on this site is on the lowest level possible, but then again it's users has always been a special breed of whining nerds and rabid fanboys.
Calling games crap based on a single pixel in the wrong place and just being obnoxious in general was the standard until it became gamersyde, now fanboyism is rampant and every "debate" is just filled with irrational hate and idiocy and it's a shame since this is a really good site with alot of potential, my advice to whoever is in charge of this site is to have a massive purge i other words ban like crazy and try to have a zero tolerance policy against fanboys and similar scum that just spew senseless rubbish without having anything of value to say.

everyone should ask for there money back its totally bad when the screen tears on a next gen console its something that just shouldnt happen why spend a load of money on games that have serious screen tearing problems when old xbox games like rally sport challenge look better
does anyone on here know why this screen tearing happens is it something to do with the screen resolution ? and how would they have been able to fix this problem anyway ?

Bakutheswede, your entire post was pointless. we are hear to discuss a game, be it good or bad, we all have a right to an opinion, and you shouldnt let someone elses opinion make you so angry as to request others opinions be "purged" just because they arent the same as yours. i totally agree that while this game looks good, the cars do pivot at their center, which looks and feels totally wrong. alot of people dont notice it, but i did and it made the game unplayable.
